Studio Art Project.

My Piece is entitled "Hallucinating"

It is acrylic on one of my old Niel Diamond records. I really wanted to be as abstract as possible with this piece and having the guy already on the record was something that sparked my imagination. I've always loved psychedelic art so I figured I would try it out in response to one of Peter Doig' s painting (the bottom picture).

The center of the record is of a man kneeling down in a field with the sun setting behind him. I really wanted to incorporate the physchedelic look with the sun especially. Then the sunset pans out to the night sky and the response or representation of Doug's artwork. I know from my research that Doug did acid so I wanted to play off of that and make it as trippy as possible hence the moving stars, bright colors, and random shapes. (I don't condone doing acid)

So that is my artist response piece it's different than anything I've ever done before, but it helped me to grow and use my imagination. It really pushed me out of my comfort zone, but in the end I really like the way it turned out!

This was inspired by Hancock's graphite sketch, called "creatures of the forest." (Bottom picture) He only had colored the eyes on his lion and made them red and I wanted to reflect that in this graphite and charcoal drawing of a tiger, too. His lion looked angry and I didn't want to convey that with mine, instead I wanted to do the opposite and make my tiger look more sad and vulnerable because I wanted the two cats to be similar but opposite of each other. I wanted it to symbolize a time of peace and neutrality and a time of heartache and betrayal. In my mind, I imagined that the two cats were each other's halves, despite them being different species and despite being done by two different people.

I also wanted to express the emotion in response of his lion. Though the emotions on the tiger and lion's face differ from one another like I've mentioned, I just wanted the emotion to stand out like his did.

I've never done an artist response piece before, and it made me look at his work in a different perspective since I had to create something in response to his. I had to think harder about my purpose and reason and creativity. I liked that, though. I liked thinking of ideas and solving it and coming to a conclusion and finally seeing results.
