3NPS Made Easy: Harmonic Minor vs Natural Minor

Hi all!

I'm starting 3NPS by comparison for a different scale family - the Harmonic Minor!

Not only it's a different family of scales, but we also have a cross-family comparison, i.e. in this chart we'll look at differences between "Harmonic Minor" (the 1st mode in its own family) and the Natural Minor scale (a.k.a. Aeolian, the 6th mode of the Major scale), and you'll see that, as before, it's still just 1 change that you need to make to the guitar pattern to get the even more eastern-sounding Harmonic Minor ;)

3 harmonic layers of the Major scale through the lens of CAGED

Here are my next charts to help you learn the CAGED system for guitar. In this release its 5 patterns are presented as 3 incremental harmonic layers: (1) root triad chord tones, (2) major pentatonic tones, and (3) full Major scale. Each next layer adds extra notes to the previous layer. This separation lets you target them individually and evoke the right effect at the right time. One of the diagrams additionally highlights the non-layer tones as blank filler notes that you can use either as passing tones or simply visually observe and study how each layer shape "fits" within the full CAGED pattern. All diagrams are isolated from one another to let you focus on just a single pattern at a time.

How to play the F-chord easily without a barre for beginners!

F is a very important guitar chord but it’s also one of the toughest chords for a beginner to play. In this tutorial I'm giving you 2 easy variations of the F-chord that don't actually require any barre at all and 1 variation which gently introduces a mini bar to prepare you for the full barre. Chords have beginner-friendly charts with finger numbers, technique diagrams and exercises to practice chord changes from and to the F-chord.
