I'm happily introducing my fascinating DM coaster collection which is a present from my sweet friend, @mijamija1234 <3 I don't even know how to say thanks and express my joy for having them. Especially because thei're hand made, unique pieces! My favourite era, MFTM <3 We talked about the idea of coasters earlier and now she made it. I'm so happy.
I'll write soon about our weekend in March with many DM adventures :)
As I mentioned in my anniversary post recently, I had wonderful weekend at the end of March. I visited the 38 years old HDMFC's annual Spring event with @mijamija1234 and friends, just like last year, it's topic was BC this Spring (there are 3-4 similar events a year by this team). Dance 'til the morning in a big hall with a big stage for 2 DJs. 2 small and a huuuge screen in the middle: videos, tours, animations, hands in the air during NLMDA, Mexico City... feel like being there <3
Some photos from the previous parties (December 2025 and 2024):
Before the party we were invited to the Depeche Mode Collectors Hungary's private event, they are (we are...) literally crazy people. One of them is a massive Vince Clarke fan, he has a whole room with Erasure, DM and Yazoo vinyls. He is a DJ and works in the records store where this group had their meeting late afternoon (in English!), discussing rare vinyls, cover art of singles, record companies, everyone's unique "DM story", favourite song/album, first meeting with their music or The Day When You've Become A DM Fan. Yes, 2 of us had a certain date :) Laughs and tears, we had a great time together.
After finishing the club's meeting we left to the DM party! We met on the spot with my good old best friend, and… after 459 non-alcoholic days I drank a glass of wine. I was at the doctor in January, and I'm much better, so I chose a date to "return", together with friends, not to say sadly any more: "I don't drink". Actually I don't drink, I got use to it. I feel good either way.
On the next day we found a beautiful, crowded art fair in the park next to Budapest Eye, one of the artists was selling vinyl-shape earrings with music group's images on the label. He was Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Depeche Mode fan, he put loud DM music for us :) And we bought tiny little DM vinyls. Then museum, coffee, my old friend invited us to her place for a dinner, wonderful gifts exchange, chocolates and chit-chat in English everywhere <3
Late Saturday night we went to a very pleasant, heartbraking farewell party at one of my favourite alternative club which has closed end of March cause of renting problems. The program organizer (<3) has a synth band, he invited me to play with him at a new wave festival end of January on a famous club's main stage. This blowed my mind. So many people were there, a part of them I use to hanging at DM and EBM parties.
With this band we had another gig last weekend at another club, on the same stage, where Stella Rose Gahan sang in January! I missed her concert, but the Special guest is one of my friend, later I asked him about Stella Rose, he adores her as a person and her beautiful voice in live. She wanted to buy his cassette, but he wanted to gifted it to her, at the end she payed for it. And any of the audience was allowed to make a selfie with her after the gig. I was planning to buy my friend's cassette earlier, but he sold the very last piece to Stella! Later I was lucky, I found one on Discogs at a Hungarian noise musician.
Before our late Saturday event with @mijamija1234 we visited this small, friendly stage on our way in the heart of the party discrict. Tourists and happy faces around. And Depeche Mode <3
(1st pic: me in January, 3rc pic: stage of Robot)
I took a photo of the view from the stage before our show - you can see the wallpaper at the back, at the right bottom there is pic with Martin and Dave (Suffer Well), so Stella Rose could see her dad as well :)
Ps. Some quick photos bottom by me at the DM party in March, the guy is my good friend, he's a biiig DM fan (he was also at Stella Rose gig and made a selfie with her), so he came to the party in THIS JACKET. How lucky him! I didn't ask if it's real Gaultier stuff or handmade by a fan, but it looks damned good.
At the end something different but important: yesterday democracy won in Hungary at the parliamentary election. I can't describe our happiness. We were dancing on the streets until late night. Watching the international news I can feel proudness after 16 dark, shameful years. Strange feeling, quite new, but I could get use to it <3
The newest buddie <333
Previously...
4 more pins (middle and bottom row) from the 80s and still counting <333
See the first catch with a short description and the second one here.
I haven't posted about my DM collection for months. Which doesn't mean that I didn't cost my very last €s for something beautiful treasure, I just didn't have time (for posting) (scroll down, so it's coming soon).
First of all I have 2 more old trafikos pins (my 1st one at this link), together I have 18 so far! (16 more here, if you open the links in the text you can read their story and see their backside). And a lots of new pieces of course, but you can make new stuff any time, aren't you? I like to see the time on these cuties. Someone loved them before just like me…
Actually this square one here above is the "newest", it is from the Violator era, all others are from cca. 1984 to 1988. Funny, when a logo is from a different era than the photo, like Black Celebration's DM on a SGR pic.
Here they are <333
Awww <3
Two more pins from the 1980s, 20 pieces so far, including my oldies <3
The big one above was found on another online market which is not Hungarian, but I bought it from a Hungarian person :) The other, smaller stuff's story is cute. I was searching on the net, I wanted to grow my collection. I found it's photo, then opened the site. It was on a gold and silver jewellery shop's website, they also sold old medals and precious, army-like badges. And 1 piece of aluminium Depeche Mode pin. I went there after work, the owner guy was a DM fan too, we talked a lot about the old times, dressing, clubs, vinyls behind the Iron Curtain. Jewellery, OMG. Yes, it is <3
I visit online markets every time when I got a notification for the key word (Depeche Mode). I lost 2 song books last month (The Singles 1985 and MFTM, beautiful, original releases), because I was late with my bid. I was very disappointed, but this time I was lucky.
4 more old pins, together I have already 12! (Link to the previous posts). These are mostly from 1987 which is my favourite era, the red one is funny, because the DM logo is from 1986, but the photo is from '84. All the back sides are rusty a bit, and I discovered a new info on the "3rd side" of two pins: "BUDAPEST 114" and "CZVERENCZ JELVÉNYINFORM". Czverencz is an old style name, he is Ákos Czverencz, jelvény means pin, so he made these pins in the 1980s. I found some articles with his name, I translated it with Google Translate's help.
The first article is from 1998, wrote about old, "trafikos" pins, precisely about the end of the pin history with nostalgic emotions:
Magyar Narancs (politics & culture) "The pop badge market became institutionalized in 1983; this is when the colorful Duran Duran and Judas Priest badges appeared, which were photographed from album covers or Bravos by enterprising Hungarians. The greatest king was Ákos Czverencz (…). According to Czverencz, the reason for the badges' former success can be found in their quiet demonstrative nature. The Czechs, East Germans and Poles carried the most - in bundles of items - and they became richer from it than the Hungarian tobacconists. These small 26-millimeter badges entered the shops without official control. (…) Most of the badges depicted pop bands, and there were not many texts on them. In terms of their material, we can also distinguish between reflective, prismatic badges (mainly Rolling Stones-language and AC/DC) and plastic resin badges with a black background badges (Pink Floyd, Jesus Christ Superstar). The flourishing of badges in the second half of the eighties was maintained by heavy metal and the smile craze that appeared in 1987."
And here is a study (!) about self expression in the late 80s in Hungary with Czverencz's adresse:
Magyar Nyelv (1991) "Badges cost 30-40 forints in 1987-1988. Many badges were bought by young people from the GDR and Poland who visited our country, as well as tourists. (…) The badge fashion reached its peak when I wrote my study — in March 1989. On the "third side" of the (…) badge, or rather on its edge, a badge maker advertises himself as follows: Czverencz Jelvényinform Bp. 114. Pf. 575."
At the end here is a long blog post (And what are you like? 2023) about history of Hungarian early pop merchandise, there are only 2-3 sentences about Czverencz, but if you translate all of it, you may enjoy. There is a picture at the end of the article about a shop from 1987, a guy's standing front of is in a white "F.CK OFF" shirt, this shop still exists, I bought there a grey mini skirt with a top last year, and there is a tattoo studio too.
Yeah, I almost forget, hah! And I got a black neckwear together with the pins from 1984 with People Are People's style script. It's worn and the rivets are rusty but this is really unique I'm sure, I've never seen this before.
In the next post I'll put all my DM pins <3
