Perhaps my greatest gaming moment
So I can’t really afford a Switch right now and I’ll be damned if I’m buying a Wii U, but I did kind of want to play Breath of the Wild. So I finally got around to downloading the CEMU emulator. The framerate isn’t great, but the game is at least playable and it’s been fun so far.
What I did not realize was that there were shrines with puzzles that relied on you tilting the controller. The emulator does let you do that with some fiddling, but it reacts really weirdly. (And I suck at these puzzles already)
I’d already given up on one that required you to first tilt a platform so you could reach a chest and a get a key and then tilt it entirely differently to actually get to a locked door. And then I got to Myahm Agana shrine. The one with the maze you have tilt to guide a ball through it.
I had heard about flipping the maze, but the weird emulated tilting controls made that impossible. Instead I spent 30 minutes fighting with the controls. I even made it to the end of the maze, but couldn’t get the speed I needed to make the ball clear the gap between the tilting maze and the track it had to land on.
I got annoyed and spun the maze at random just as a new ball dropped down. Of course it got knocked away and I calmed down and decided to wait for the next one. And then no new ball came.
Confused, I looked around just in time to see the ball I’d knocked away calmly rolling into the hole to open the door. My annoyed flailing had knocked it over the fence and on to the track!
I died laughing.
