i’m watching a playthrough of tales of the abyss. and like, 5 minutes in, guy appears in luke’s room, talks to him a bit and then escapes out the window when the maid enters. what are you two, forbidden lovers or something? can’t you enter through the door like a normal person?

I was having a conversation about the perception of Loki as just misunderstood and abused, and it got me thinking about the differences between him and Magneto (and other marvel baddies), and why one is generally considered a villain, and the other...isn't, and when it's appropriate to use the 'bad things happened in the past and therefore it excuses his/her behavior' argument, and when it's not. (Most big Marvel villains have some tragic backstory, as do a great many of the heroes.)

This'll probably get me into trouble, but I've never been one to jump on the groupthink bandwagon. And actually I think Magneto is a better villain, too. All appropriate props to Tom Hiddleston, though. He did a fantastic job making the character sympathetic. Just, y'know, he's still a bad guy, in my book
