My boss makes a lot of rules but only after he says the complete opposite is okay. For example, he would tell people to take a longer lunch if necessary because he wanted his team to enjoy their time at work. After a week of 70 or 80 minute lunches, he blames us for abusing the policy and no one can take long lunches anymore. Or he encourages us to take time off but then rants about so many PTO requests. However, his rules don’t seem to apply to him. He’s out all the time, takes long lunches, and “works from home” without prior notice. We need to get congressional approval in order to work from home and he won’t let us forget it.
