She was desperately trying to avoid him but unfortunately her eyes kept wandering back in that direction. It had been a while. Perhaps once or twice seen at a distance but for the most part they had both been fairly successful in avoiding each other since their little rendezvous, now almost four years ago. It hurt, though, how good he looked in his funny Muggle suit. It felt like two worlds had crashed into one another and Melaina was seeing fireworks in the collision. The father of her child within the world where she had no child, just a younger brother.
She tried to shake herself out of the thoughts and turn her attention back to the rounds of mingling she was making. For a while it worked, but then yet another person asked after her father and though she reeled off the ready excuse, that in his grief he had decided to stay at home with his son, she was starting to feel uncomfortably warm. She excused herself as politely as she could and headed for the nearest doors, stepping around a couple of smokers into the gardens of the manor, heart stopping when she found herself face to face with the very man she was trying to pretend she had never loved. “Oh. Sturgis.” She still said his voice with a softness and a fondness that she shouldn’t and she ducked her head, pretending to adjust the crystal-studded mask on her face in an attempt to avoid his gaze. “Is this your first time to Tudeley Manor?” she asked, voice higher than normal with the forced attempt to make casual conversation as if they were nothing but former classmates.
