Presenting the Vans Skate Style 113 Pro USA ArcAd

In the mid 90's, Vans shifted their entire means of manufacturing overseas. Because of a lull in the market and a multitude of other reasons, it was not longer viable to produce premium, American made goods. Through various lines, like Originals and more recently Anaheim Factory, Vans has sought to recreate the made in the USA appeal and look. The Anaheim Factory Collection certainly comes as close as we are going to get to the vulcanized rubber soles and shapes from the USA era of Vans' golden years, but now the brand has brought us something more. For July 2017, Vans has once again created an all-American shoe, the Vans Skate Style 113 Pro USA ArcAd.

The Style 113 is a completely new silo. Vans created a brand new board-last that they say will fit  you more like a boot than a traditional skate shoe. The 113 takes the styling of the original Old Skool and adds a suede olly pad to the quarters. You get your choice of black uppers with white mids or whites with black mids. Each will be limited to only 350 pieces worldwide. While there is no vulc waffle outsole, these sport the advanced Wafflecup we've seen on the previous ArcAd releases that seem to be a favorite among skaters. These also come packed with all of the tech people come to expect from the Pro Skate and ArcAd line, including: 

Vans Pro Skate UltraCush HD sockliners that include an anatomical heel cup and arch contour to provide the ultimate comfort and support.

A thicker, more durable sole with double-stitched heel and a molded “Off The Wall” heel scab.

A “Made in USA” woven label on the tongue, with Pro Skate ArcAd sequential numbering and a US manufactured stamp on the inside liner, completing each pair with its own individual mark.

This marks a return to the original made in the USA quality that Vans was known for for over 30 years. Each piece was cut, stitched, and glued by hand right here in the USA. Even down to the tongue stamping where each individual letter and number was placed and pressed by a worker. Vans sought out the highest quality leathers and materials they could find for these. If you've ever had a handmade boot like Red Wing and Chippewa or a dress shoe like Allen Edmond, these are meant to age just like those, forming to your foot over the years to be a perfect fit.

The Vans Skate Style 113 Pro USA ArcAd will be available in extremely limited numbers at select stockists worldwide beginning this Saturday, July 8th. Retail will be $270. See stockists at Vans.com.

A quick note about the pricing here. I know many of you will balk at the $270 price tag, but consider what you're getting. This price is comparable to any premium, made in the USA shoe (just take a look at the New Balance 997 line). It wouldn't surprise me if Vans is losing money on this release. This is also a piece of history, marking Vans' return to US manufacturing after 20+ years. If you're a collector (like many of us are) that's a big deal. It's something that we have been dreaming about for years now. For my part, I couldn't be happier.
