Style profile: Amy Winehouse
To many Miss Winehouse's style would be described as messy, unfitted, dirty, etc. But to the latter these aspects of her fashion and personality made her the peoples new favorite non-chalant IT-GIRL. The immensely talented 8x platinum Back To Black british singer knew what she liked, what she wanted, and never apologized for it. Whether it was smokes, boys, ballet flats, drugs, a hair bump as high as the ceiling, escapism, denim, button ups, booze, winged eyeliner, and so on. Amy wore how she felt on her sleeve, she was a sweet soul but disturbed and her clothes reflected that. Style shows who we are, what we admire, where we are in life/in society. I've always looked up to Amy and her style, not because it's in any way runway ready, celebritys are wearing it, designer, and all the other fashion industry bullshit. But simply because she liked it, thought she looked hot, and didn't give a single fuck after that.
In Amy's style you can see she has some different staple aesthetics she loves to frankenstein together in a very funky slept in this outfit overnight and now im here Amy kinda way. The vintage pin-up girl style from 1940-50's mixed with Rosie The Riveter. Throw in a little magic of Chola/Latina style influence onto that. Her infamous sexy lady tattoos with these outfits added a very alternative and cool edge to the vintagey looks.
I see for the most part Amy just wanted to be comfortable... when she wasn't dressing up for a show or a night out, Amy's go to was just an effortless combination of a t-shirt/tank with some denim jeans/shorts, her stained ballet slippers, a cool belt, and her iconic hair and makeup. There was no denying Amy was stunning (unless gorgeous gappy toothy smiles aren't your thing) and I think it was an aspect that pulled everything all together. Amy was in no way traditional, from her beauty, to her outfits, to her singing. She made it cool to be a dirty girl and she made other people feel okay for being dirty girls.
