BAGELS AND DONUTS
There are only two people I can eat bagels and donuts with in the span of less than an hour who won’t judge me: Cass and Roxy. Today I was with Roxy because she is visiting from Cali! We knew Chicago Bagel Authority would be our brunch destination, but it was only a coincidence that Glazed and Infused is literally two steps away. To make us seem even more fat, we drove there instead of going on a 15 minute walk. I’ve been going to CBA since I was little and mom had to order me a peanut butter and jelly bagel, but it still takes me forever to decide on a sandwich. My bagel of choice is called the Greg-O, and consists of cream cheese, smoked cheddar, lettuce, tomato, avocado, sprouts and mustard. I added bacon. I finished the steamed bagel, and was extremely grateful for my dough-heavy brunch appropriate attire: flowy tank and drawstring shorts. If you ever go to CBA, which you will, don’t fret about the bialey/bagel dilemma. I panicked for one quick minute when I realized my sandwich was on a bialey, but I swear there is basically no difference in their tastiness or doughiness.
Before we were able to digest the bagels, we hopped to Glazed and Infused. All you need to know is gourmet donuts. Oh, you also need to know bacon maple long john. It’s a long john so they can fit the caramelized strip of bacon on it. Duh. We boxed up a chocolate donut, a bacon maple, a red velvet and a blueberry lemon creation. Can you guess which one was my favorite? The second runner up was the blueberry lemon, which Roxy and I decided didn’t really taste that much like blueberry or lemon. No harm, though. I was high in heaven as I ate through its extreme fluffiness. I shouldn’t tell you guys this considering how almost contradictory it is to my bacon obsession, but I’ve got to stay true to my transparent journalistic roots. Roxy and I first walked out of the donut shop with a basic vanilla bean donut instead of the bacon delicacy. After about two steps, we turned around shameful of our boring decision, and begged for the nice lady behind the counter to switch it out for their renown long john.
To sum up this fattening experience I'd like to point out how dangerous it is to have these two places within walking distance of my new apartment.
