Week 4: Graphic Design.

Thinking about colours for my Anthropocene project. Right now, I’m drawn to magenta (maybe with a violet touch) and a bright yellow-green. Magenta feels a bit toxic and intense like danger or warning, while the yellow-green reminds me of something alive, fresh, and growing.

Black and white also stay in my mind. They reflect a darker mood I had recently, more reflective, even a bit heavy. But this project isn’t about sinking into sadness. It’s about awareness. A reminder that we can’t ignore what’s happening to the world. We don’t all need to become environmental warriors, but we do need to stay conscious. This is our future. Let’s not destroy it by ignoring the present.

Week 4: Graphic Design.

This task was to create a stylescape (which used to be called a mood board). It’s a way to collect colours, images, and ideas that match the feeling or message of a design.

I used the analogue posters I made earlier and developed them digitally, choosing a colour palette that fit the design. This was part of our Color Theory module and a great way to see how colours can support and strengthen a visual message.

I made 6 different iterations as there is always so many options in photoshop. I was alternating, typefaces, colour, position and size.

I tried out three typefaces using sections of these three poems:

"Arrival of a Beebox" by Sylvia Plath,

"Fame is a bee" by Emily Dickinson

"Her Voice" by Oscar Wilde

For the 2nd collage I just changed the title typeface.

My conclusion is that I'd like to use the Courier typeface for the word Anthropocene.

First I made this landscape collage. trying to include elements of plants that are alive and then dead meshy-materials that mimic the honeycomb somehow. I also included my colour palette and a photocopy of my thumbnail drawing of a paper wasp nest.

I really enjoyed playing with the printer, photocopying things like scanning in a black hexagon material I got off Gillian the fashion technician. I changed the colour it would print to, using a "pumpkin" orange, green and in the below piece a brown and yellow. I also used this setting to print the big green plant piece in a monochrome green.

Then I made a portrait collage trying to make a balanced composition. I kept the lively more colourful section in the bottom left branching out. I used a photocopy and cut out of my bee thumbnails.

Sharing my new work! - Logo design for Audio Forest, a music samples Ecommerce store. The logo is inspired by audio waves that are rotated 90 degree to form an abstract tree. This is my first Stylescape for my first idea/approach for my music festival. I wanted to have this sophisticated, modernism and minimalism atmosphere. It’s suppose to resemble the Edo Era.

Getting a second look at it I’m starting to realise that this kind of still mood and atmosphere is not what I want my music festival to feel like for my target audience. Now that I am looking at Risograph, I’m starting to have a look at where that takes me.
