Who doesn't love a family portrait?

Thought I'd sketch some of Enguerrandol's family since I don't get to talk about him a lot. Those who've been following the blog for a LONG time may recognise Enguerrandol's brother's clothes to be Enguerrandol's original design! It's weird seeing the two outfits right next to eachother.

I feel like there's a mistake somewhere but it's 5:45 am. If there is one I'll fix it tomorrow.

Is Shastacan under pressure from his father, why does he want his little son to look so much like his father? Is his father a bad person? oh my god no, who do we hate now🤦‍♀️

Don't worry, King Styneworthe was a decent parent. He spoiled his children but never harmed them. Shastacan is just really petty and can't get over the fact his brother had first claim to the throne. He thought he deserved it more than him. The spoiling was the most harm his parents did since it made him an entitled man who thought he deserved the best.

It's a "You didn't give me what I want so now I'm going to use my son to get what I want" thing. When he manipulates his son, he feels better about himself since he's one upping a Styneworthe.

But the fact that he focuses all of his attention on him means that the new Styneworthe is also a bit of a spoiled brat. He's not as bad as Shastacan but the things Shastacan promises him gets to his head a lot, no matter how weird or impossible those promises seem.

Shastacan has a more normal relationship with Enguerrandol. He was born to inherit the Spiderbite throne (Shastacan doesn't get the irony of that) so Shastacan spent a lot of time preparing him for that. He doesn't particularly like spending family time with the shy prince, however, since he finds Enguerrandol to be hideous (Hence why he's covered in makeup). His adorable, bubbly second born is much more fit to go into the world and claim another throne.

Don't worry, Shastacan has his reasons, but he's worse than his father. At least his father loved them.

Are Enguerrandol's grandparents still alive? Did they have any influence considering that his little brother is named after one of them? Also why would they name someone Enguerrandol?

Enguerrandol's grandparents are no longer alive. I headcanon that the Mewmans in the Spiderbite Kingdom die younger than the other kingdoms as the bites from spiders can cause more issues to the elderly. Enguerrandol and his brother never met them.

Shastacan is still bitter over Solaria going back on the agreement between her and his parents to marry him off to Eclipsa. While he wasn't fond of marriage, he loves the power and comforts the highest of royalty can get. He tries his best to live the life he wants, dressing in purple (a colour associated with royalty) and no longer sticking to traditional Spiderbite earthy colours, and taken to name his children extravagantly. He mostly focuses on Styneworthe, trying to mold the young child to be who he wants. It was his plan from the boy's conception. Shastacan doesn't tell people this, but what Mewmans assume to be a nice homage to his father is actually a petty thing. He wants to shove it in his father's face that he's the ruler now, he has all the power and he was wrong to chose his brother to rule. He's projecting onto his son, naming him the same since the one who he's actually angry at is dead.

Enguerrandol doesn't like his name. He thinks it sounds weird and is too over the top. He begs people to just call him 'Randol' instead. (Side note: Feel free to refer to him as that if you want since I know his full name can be weird to type.)

As I said previously, their mother didn't have much say in their lives so Shastacan is in control of what they're called, how they dress. He wants mini hims.
