I want to talk about one of the chapters of the SU comic ¨Fusion Frenzy¨ that is about Sugilite. I'm bothered that this wasn't made into an episode in the series but i suppose it had to do with Sugilite's voice actress. I still like this comic for exploring the fusion and acting as follow up for Coach Steven.

I assume this comic takes place after Amethyst arc in Season 3 because she has her outfit from post getting poofed by Jasper (the one she has a white shirt). Meaning that Amethyst has overcome some of her bigger insecurities by then and she doesn't need Sugilite to feel strong as she used to.

The plot goes about how the gems have to capture a powerful corrupted gem and Amethyst thinks they need Sugilite for that. Pearl, of course, opposes this because of what happened last time when they spent too much time fused (Coach Steven). Steven suggests for Amethyst and Garnet to talk about how it does feel for both of them to be Sugilite and what they think makes them lose control.

Amethyst talks about how she gets to ¨cut loose¨ as Sugilite, that ¨nothing holds her back¨. She gets to be herself while she is part of the fusion and enjoys power it comes with her.

Garnet admits she gets excited as well and she gets her more impulsive side out. That she gets to be on ¨the moment¨. (Ruby). But she doesn't get to be all of her because she doesn't get to listen to her more patient side of her (Sapphire).

They come to the conclusion that the reason of why Sugilite can get out of control is because there is a problem in communication between Amethyst and Garnet and that Amethyst should try to listen better to the more patient side of Garnet. (And Garnet avoiding getting carried out too). That way Sugilite can get to feel all herself and not just some parts of herself and become unstable.

So they agree to try to form Sugilite and defeat the gem monster the following day. When they fuse, Sugilite easily beats up the monster without much trouble.

Pearl gets ready in case the plan doesn't work and she has to the fusion down yet again.

But... to her surprise Sugilite doesn't lose control and defuses quickly back into Garnet and Amethyst, like they had planned.

Pearl is surprised to see everything work out just fine and Garnet points out that Steven's plan worked, they just needed to listen to each other better and try to be more patient. Amethyst even points out that she wasn't left drained out unlike other times they had turned into Sugilite in the past.

They even suggest that because they have found what was the main problem, Sugilite could show up more often from now on.

So like, this comic explores that the reason of why Sugilite lost control was because of how Amethyst and Garnet got carried out with the power that came with being Sugilite. Amethyst had to work on herself and learn to accept herself better to understand what the problem was. We see her act more mature in this story, realizing how she doesn't always listen to Garnet while fused and she should work on that. She doesn't feel like she needs Sugilite to feel good about herself as she used to, meaning having to worry less about getting carried away.

Garnet also realizes that she should work better in keeping balance of both of her sides and not getting the more impulsive of her overtake her (Ruby).

In the end, both Garnet and Amethyst had to work on their personal issues during the series to understand themselves better and realize that they mainly had issues when it came to communicating with each other while they are Sugilite. Once they understood that, they realized that can form Sugilite more easily and not have to worry about losing control in the future.
