This ep not only gave us fan service but also some more hints to Norrix’s backstory AND potential for Modeus and Norrix bonding and I am here for All Of It

Lacey in the official Discord mentioned the idea of Modeus giving Norrix a #1 Dad cup and I got inspired to make something similar.

I want to share a theory/headcanon regarding Modeus and what Norrix used to power him. I first shared this with people back before the reboot, so I didn't know any of the magic lore, nor had I seen him use magic, but I think it still fits.

Purpah has previously said that Modeus is akin to a warforged in DnD, and while I don't know much about those, I know generally with magical tropes that any sort of living construct takes a lot of energy and work, something that has been confirmed as of ep.7 However in most media sapient beings require a bit more oomph in their power sources, usually portrayed in the use of human/other sapient beings souls, but as also pointed out in Ep.7 the use of human souls/life forces is strictly forbidden. Considering the amount of work Norrix has put to get into his position, I sincerely doubt he'd risk it by using a human in addition to the animal lives he used.

However many people have pointed out, the Suitor Armor universe has more than just humans, that he could have used a fairy, and that's certainly plausible, I don't think it's what's going on. It feels too easy have him use a fairy's life and use that and make him out to be a bad guy because of that and I feel like that's contrary to the depth of the characters in the comic. He might be somewhat shady, but I don't think that's involved as much with Modeus as it has to do with magic overall.

So, if not human, and not fairy, then what else would he have put into Modeus. Obviously there's the initial animals, and perhaps more, but those don't fit the sapience requirements, but there is something we see him using that does.

He says himself, that skilled mages can pull from themselves to power their magic, and while one spell might not have much of an effect, consider how many he's put into Modeus. Relying on his own life force for a fraction of those could be enough to spark that flicker of life Modeus has. And he wouldn't even recognize that as a potential, because to him there's nothing he could have put into Modeus to make him more than well enchanted armor.

When I first made this theory, I brought up the idea of him deliberately using his soul, as to him the idea of sacrificing part of himself to make Modeus work made more sense to me than him risking the work he's put in to get his position. I'm not too sure on that now, but I don't think its out of the realm of possibility. Either case works, though I am more in the former boat at this point.

I wanted to wait to say this, because when I made it I had no idea how magic worked, and while I know more now, I wanted to wait until I saw something specific in the comic. I wanted to see someone other than him use magic. Because I wanted to see if his magic being red was just how magic presented itself or just how his did. And with Lucia using magic as of Ep.9 we saw her magic be a stunning blue. There's still the chance that her magic is different because of her fae nature, but until proven otherwise I'm going to assume that it's not, and that Modeus's eye and heart being the same red as Norrix's magic is more significant than Modeus being made by him.

Modeus finds out humans needs more sleep than he thought, decides to make sure his creator gets the proper amount to be healthy.

Been a but overtired after pulling an all-nighter earlier this week, so this popped into my head and I wanted to get it out.

Second set of References for the Labyrinth AU

Modeus is taking the place of the frightening but lovable Ludo, Sir Baynard is of course taking the place of Sir Didymus, as recommended by KeyInk/Ray on the discord, His squire Peres replaces Didymus’s steed Ambrosius, and Kirsi’s cat Knave, takes the place of Hoggle

I will admit this bunch were the ones I was the most uncertain of.

The horns on the skull on his belt and the fur were the only ways i could think to incorporate Ludo’s design into Modeus.

Sir Baynard’s supposed to be based off of a wolf, partially because I wanted to keep some of the canine aspects of Sir Didymus, and partially because I felt that a wolf suited him

Otherwise his outfits a sort of mix between his and Didymus’s with some guesstimation for the lower half

Rather than making Peres’s animal pieces canine to match with Ambrosius, I decided to make his based off of an albino raven. Raven because they’re known to hunt and work with wolves and I felt that matched the relationship between him and Baynard, but an albino one to match his colors

The patterns on his outfit though are pulled from Ambrosius’s saddle think, though adjustments were made to match his and Baynard’s design.

Literally the file I’ve been drawing these in is called THE CAT.kra because the thought of Knave taking Hoggles place came to me and I just had to try drawing it out.

The similarities are mostly in personality, but the jewelry he’s decked out in is the biggest thing I pulled from Hoggle.

I really want to find out how Norrix made Modeus. Like did he have to shape his armor himself; weaving magic into the metal as he worked or did he commision it from a blacksmith.

I can't imagine any blacksmith being comfortable with a mage using spells around them whether or not they were licensed to do so, so if magic needed to be sewn in while the armor was being made how would he have worked it out.

Also given that Modeus is animated armor, what does he use to power himself. does he have some sort of core that keeps him coherent, or is he like Alphonse Elric and just has a seal binding his essence to the armor.

However it is I do hope we find out, either in the comic or from Purpah.
