007 First Light is out for 5 days and I need sub!James Bond x reader already
Good boy (Part 1)
Sharp teeth are bared, a maw pants openly, claws scrape over cold, barren cement and stainless steel. The observation window is reinforced glass but it vibrates under the onslaught of the creature that has been, until recently, on of their top agents.
M is standing in front of the window, face illuminated by the cold lights inside the cell.
„007, stand down!“ No reaction.
„Agent Bond, report!“ Nothing.
„James, can you hear me?“ The beast does not even waver in his restless fight against the walls that hold him captive.
M turns around, brow furrowed deeply. Medical staff hurries in and out of the room, eyes lowered as if afraid of getting asked questions nobody wants to hear the answers to. Nobody knows what happened to Bond in the last few hours of his mission, nobody understands what led to this.
Typing furiously on his laptop, Q has to admit that they are at their wits end. They do not know how long this cell can hold the transformed agent, they have no idea how to help him. It is only a matter of time until someone dares to bring up a mercy killing.
Something cold and hard clenches up inside his stomach. Q shuts his laptop and steps up beside M, who is still watching what had once upon a time been a smartly dressed, steely eyed agent. Now it is a beast of nightmares. Standing on four legs, shoulder height easily two meters, covered in shaggy silver blond fur. The eyes are still blue, Q notes dispassionately, but the skull is elongated, doglike, with a set of deadly jaws and rows upon rows of white teeth. 007 maimed two operatives before he was sedated and the sedation lasted barely long enough for him to be transported here and shut into this tiny, empty holding cell.
„He did not bring back even one shred of my equipment.“ Q grumbles quietly, more to say anything than out of real complaint.
The creature stops his pacing, his head whips around, staring at the one-way glass. He should not be able to see them. He does so anyway. His eyes bore into Q’s and he knows, he knows Bond is in there, somewhere. The creature sits on his haunches, all four feet together, the long tail curled around itself elegantly. Then it hacks and gags and spits out something small and black. It clatters on the ground in front of his paws, covert in slobber.
Q does not notice that he holds his breath until he gets dizzy and M grabs his arm to prevent him form toppling. The creature growls, a deep, sub vocal sound that seems to permeate the room.
„I have to go in there.“
„Are you mad? I’ll have him sedated again-“
„No.“ Q turns to his boss. „Let me try it first.“ He swallows, his throat is tight. „He deserves at least that much.“
„If he kills you, I lose one of my best agents and my Quartermaster in one day.“
„I’ll take precautions.“ Q turns back to the window. The creature – James!- is still watching him. When Q steps up to the window, placing a hand on the thick glass, the great maw opens slightly. „Let me try something.“
They can not just open the door and let someone step inside, it would only give the highly trained agent, now turned furry death machine, an opportunity to escape. So Q does the next best thing and stands outside, hand pressed to the cold steel, talking quietly, only too aware of the eyes and ears that surround them. He knows James would hate this.
„Where is my tech, James?“, he asks softly and earns a whine that could be charitably interpreted as sheepish.
„Hmhm, and did you at last bring me some intel?“, Q continues. Claws shuffle eagerly over the concrete and he hears the sound of a small object being scooted over to the door until the casing hits the metal. Despite the strange situation, Q has to smile.
„Good boy.“
@halfbaked00q this is for you! Thank you for your wonderful takes and ideas and little bits and bobs. This is my first try at a 00q fic and I hope you enjoy <3
Good Boy (Part 3)
“This is madness.” M’s voice drones out of Q’s earpiece.
Q grimaces and rolls his eyes. It’s too late now for second thoughts. He is doing this. “Write that on my tombstone, will you?”
The floor is evacuated, all exits that lead up or down blocked. Luckily, there is a training room just down the hall, with enough space to let Bond move about, and a shower. Q has no idea how his agent will behave once he is out of this cell, but he has hope. James at least seemed to understand simple commands and he hopes desperately that he was not mistaken. Otherwise this might be quite a painful death.
The keypad lights up when he punches in the unlocking sequence. He is prepared for a mad rush, an attack, at least an escape attempt, but the creature just looks at him with big, blue eyes. Two ears point up through the silvery fur and Q suppresses the urge to stretch out a hand to pet him.
“It’s all right, James. Come on.” he says quietly. This is already going so much better that he feared.
James – for the creature is really, truly his James, there is no doubt about it!- stands hesitantly and pads towards the door. Up close, Q can smell him, wet fur and blood and dried sweat. He wrinkles his nose.
“We will give you a bath before you go anywhere.”, he warns his agent and gets a wet nose pushed into his hands for his trouble. The fur on Bods head is thick and wiry, matted and sticky. Q fights the urge to wipe off his hands on his sweater and instead continues petting the shaggy mane and the twitching ears, to calm them both down a bit.
Finally, he deems them both calm enough for the second leg of their adventure. “Come now, let’s get you out of here. You are lucky I do not ship you to medical immediately, but they are not quite prepared yet for a patient with your… dimensions and needs.”
Bonds ears flatten at the mention of the dreaded department, but he follows Q gamely down the hallway. Q watches him out of the corner of his eye. Bond’s movement is smooth, he has no visible injuries, but the fur could hide a lot. His paws make barely any sound on the floor and his head moves from side to side, like a big cat on the prowl.
He perks up noticeably when they enter the training room. The big, open space has been cleared of the weights, but Q requested some other equipment be brought in to provide a bit of stimulation. It was mostly gymnastics equipment, balance beams, some jumping blocks, a few bars, even and uneven to provide opportunity for climbing. Bond stays at his side, but Q can feel him quiver minutely.
“Go on, off you go.” There are cameras present to record everything and Q has a few integrated in the frames of his glasses as well. He will review the footage later, to try and find out what the hell is going on with his agent. But right now, he simply enjoys the explosive joy of a wild creature set free.
The jumps are very impressive, but Q cringes when the long claws rip the thick leather covers on the jumping blocks open. The floor mats do not fair any better. The movement of the beast is like nothing he has ever seen, a strange mixture between catlike agility and the brute strength of a bear. James takes turns with force, ramming his claws into the ground and pivoting nearly on the spot. That is the move that got one of the operatives that found him. Q can see why, it is quite unusual.
The head his doglike, with long canines, but the fur around the neck is thick and fluffy, more like the mane of a juvenile lion. When James returns to him, he is panting, tongue lolling out of his mouth, ears pricked up like a happy dog. His long tail whips over the destroyed mats on the floor, filling getting caught in the feathery fur at the end.
“Well, I hope you feel better now?”, Q asks and barely flinches at the human-like nod he receives. “Alright, then it’s time to clean you up a little.”
Bond sits down and begins carefully licking his paws.
Q snorts, amused. “Nice try, but to be honest, you stink. Come on, into the shower.”
He gets a very critical look and the paw lifts higher, as if to demonstrate the problem.
“I will help.”, he reassures the wary agent. Bond does not seem enthused, but follows him into the shower. His eyes are half closed and Q knows he is planning on being a brat. Shaking his head fondly, the Quartermaster makes plans to show his good boy who will be calling the shots here.
