Accounts aren't deleted, its just that your names might be taken - so your account would now be OldAccountName_1 or something.

Thanks. I was wondering since I wasn’t able to login and cannot go through the reset password process.
But currently my user page still recognize my old/original account name,so would it mean the name is still not taken? But then again this little message pops up above the page layout:
This account is inactive. You can Change your Username to it!
Should I either way change my username by clicking the hyperlink and see what happens?
