ever since they’ve arrived at the resort, there hasn’t been a minute where junhyung was left on his own. it was already their last night at the retreat and so, he figures he ought to have some alone time. he enjoyed his friends’ company — the activities wouldn’t be as fun without them. however, even someone like junhyung, who enjoys being around people (especially girls) would need a breather too. he wanders off from his group of friends and makes his way over to the lakeside with some beer. there’s nothing like a quiet night alone, sipping beer with the late night breeze lightly blowing at him, surrounded by mountainous views he wouldn’t find in the city.

instead, what he got was a little different from what he had envisioned. it appears someone had arrived before him and he was about to leave and find another spot to retreat into when he caught a glimpse of her face, deciding to approach her when he recognises her from their previous encounters at gojong park. junhyung creeps up to her with an impish grin, pulling out a chilled can of beer from his bag and pressing it against her cheek. "a girl like you shouldn't be here all by yourself.” he comments, plopping himself down next to her. “haven't you heard about the rumours?” he questions with a raised brow, “it happened late at night when the moon was full...” he clears his throat, glancing around them before leaning in to whisper, “just like tonight...” 

everyone was talking about it during the campfire last night — the sighting of a creature in the forest near the lake. what creature, no one knew, all they’ve heard was how it resembles bigfoot but with a scarier face. he won’t deny it gave him the creeps though a part of him isn’t convinced about the existence of monsters. still, he brings it up just so he could use it as an excuse to stay with her. “and just in case those rumours are true,” he adds with a playful glint to his eyes, “I’m here to protect you.”

the thing about jongin in seongnam is that he’s not here to learn in the common way of things, he’s not here to expand on his education, he’s not here to grow an understanding of the jobscope he intends on infiltrating out in the real world, he has no intentions of keeping most if any of his connections here after he graduates-- nothing here affects him in the long run and he knows it. once he leaves these halls, he’ll be forced into his father’s corporation, regardless of anything he studies here, he’ll be forced to give all his time and effort into the business, forced to marry a woman chosen for him when he was fifteen, forced to donate his life to the legacy his parents leave him, and he has no say in the matter. neither does anyone else.

so when he acts out here on campus, it’s only inside this academic bubble and he knows it, every explosion only reaching out so far for him, only striking out so wide a radius around him, that he barely has to worry about it. more connections than god, more money than he knows what to do with, more audacity in his bloodstream than his days can hold, jongin knows he is a ticking time-bomb, knows he is a virus without a cure, knows he is a villain without a hero. but he also surmises that not everyone is living like that, not everyone is stabilized like a statue in storms, not everyone is enough havoc to melt in with the storms when they come-- some of these kids have an awful lot to lose. and jongin gets so, so bored sometimes.

he streams out onto the quad like a nightmare, long-legged and grinning, his backpack securely over his shoulder as he spots his prey sitting out on a bench by herself in a fairly isolated area, perfect for hushed conversations and secrets and threats. he approaches her as though they had a date to meet, some project to work on together, some trist to converge on alone, sitting down beside her with all the boldness of a friend and the venom of an enemy. “hello, subin,” he smiles even wider, ignoring honorifics even though this is the first time he’s ever spoken to her. whether she knows him by his reputation or not is debatable and honestly, unimportant; she’s about to find out. “i was just wondering, for practical purposes, how you manage to have so many hours in a day to do so many things-- i mean, you cheer and you write and you cook and you model and you study and you….” he leans his head on his palm, his elbow on the back of the bench, his eyes sparkling as though he’s genuinely curious, “record yourself late at night for desperate, horny middle-aged men? how do you find the time?”
