Moon Walk sublunar_Draft_sub+dif_div

 My first album art piece, a distortion of the original "Moonwalk" painting, is also the release of my spouse's first full-length album, sublunar! Join his event for a performance of the full album, complete with visuals. To celebrate the album release, I'll be sharing the album art drafts each day up to the release. 

Process

For this album, sublunis was drawn to Moon Walk, but requested to make it more "digital." I interpreted that as "warp it around and play with filters". The result is a melting lunar scene in spotlight. I played around with the "liquify" tool in Photoshop to warp around the original piece. I used the filters "subtraction" "difference" and "divide" on multiple layers around the edges. All playing with the levels and saturation along the way so this was much brighter and higher contrast than the original. The effect in this version felt like a hyperdimensional snowglobe. 

The music of sublunis

I would describe sublunis' music as a surreal soundtrack of fantastical worlds (yes our creative visions are very compatible and was part of how we bond in our relationship). There's a mixing of piano and digital performance (hmm musical mixed media?). It's hard to define genre for someone you are so close to personally, but ambient, dreampunk, and if chillwave had some jazz, that's a start.
