The Definition of Consent: 

noun

"permission for something to happen or agreement to do something."

Under the BDSM umbrella, consent can take many forms, but it is what separates us from criminals and abusers. Consent is an ethical cornerstone of this LS, no matter what part of it you participate in. Even CNC has “Consent” in the title. I’ve seen and heard many theories on how Consent should or can work and essentially, I believe this:

Consent should be fluid and all it’s parameters should be in the best interest of all people involved. Not just one side of the slash. Consent should be able to be withdrawn, even in TPE, M/s and CNC dynamics. If there is not a consent clause in your contract, conversation, agreement, get one! 

We are not robots, we have lives and challenges and internal struggles and no one can know 100% of what they will or will not consent to all of the time. There’s far too many things out there to cover in the vetting and negotiations process. Keeping an open line of communication and a safe, mutually respectful and non-judgmental way will help ensure mutual consent is never a topic of uncertainty.
