Angel of the Rails - starter for subtlebravery
Chicago, rail capital of the United States, if not the world. Thousands of trains coming and going, day in and day out, all day everyday. Since the depression, freight trains have had hobos riding in the 'side door pullmans'. While railroads were focused on kicking out the freeloads, the Secret Service was interested in tracking down criminals and spies that might be using the hobo jungles and railroads to get around. Agent Oliver Cross was assigned to such a task. He in addition to seeking out bolsheviks, Oliver also was tasked to locate what some hobos call the Angel of the Rails. She had become the focus of the Secret Service since the Flying Pussyfoot Incident. This woman, Rachel, would make a great agent. And after running into her undercover at Daily Days, Oliver had a personal reason to run into her again. But first, he had to find her, if she was even in this rail yard.

One wrong move, one misstep or wrong turn, and he'll be cornered; the yōkai he's been trying so hard to avoid are now barreling towards him, ambitions bared, bent on blood and glory in their conquest for his grandmother's book. He's been lost in this forest for what seems like hours - days, maybe - with no shrine in sight, let alone any sign of civilization.
When the trees finally break into road, for a brief moment, Natsume believes that some sort of god has blessed him.
As soon as he leaps out into the road, he has to swerve on a heel to keep from hitting someone - a girl? At least he's reasonably sure of that, which keeps him from lashing out at her in self-defense.
...Of course, this sends him sprawling out onto the pavement. Good job, Natsume. You're sweaty, gasping for air, and about as red as a tomato. Great first impression.
He's just gonna catch his breath for a minute.
" Hello --- Do you need something?"
" Oi --- What brings you here?"
