"At nightfall everything grew silent. The hours chimed heavily, and all that remained in the street was the echo of a guitar refrain... A waggon, heavily laden with stone passed by which a horse with large, sad eyes could hardly draw... And there, lower down, see that little old man seated on a stool begging for alms from the passersby, as he idly grinds his out of tune barrel organ..."  (description by Mompou, inspired by his walks in the popular quarters of Barcelona)
