MOBOT AGREED WITH ME. I DON’T HAVE A CARMENAE. I HAVE A SENILIS.

Also, the “ferocactus” I received is an echinopsis of some sort. (I need to get a better picture for them.)

Also, MoBot is the Missouri Botanical Garden. If a plant store from Cali wants to fight about it, they better have guns.

So I can safely say that I won’t be ordering from Succulent Box again. (Four pictures.)

They say that THIS is a mammillaria CARMENAE albiflora.

But when I do a search for mammillaria carmenae albiflora, I find this.

They also have this picture on their website.

Anyone able to tell me what doesn’t look right here?

How about this “Devil’s Tongue” or “Fish Hook” cactus I received?

Especially when you compare it to the website’s version? Not to mention the fact that I have LITERALLY OWNED THE CACTUS THEY’RE ADVERTISING.

For those that say “Just message their support desk! They’ll see that it’s not right!”

The thing is. I have. They told me this morning that these are the right plants I received. That that is the albiflora I ordered. That that is the ferocactus I ordered. Except they aren’t. I did not order a senilis - I ordered a carmenae. I didn’t order what looks like a barrel cactus - I ordered another Julius because I killed him by mistake when I changed his dirt to something newer and more nutrient-rich*** with white spines literally everywhere. That ferocactus is infrequently spined. What I have is not.

Nah. No thanks. I’m not gonna order from them again - I’ll just order locally.

Edit: Apparently I mixed up my CURRENT ferocactus latispinus with Julius.

SUCCULENT TABLE DIY

I was getting tired of my old, cheap Ikea table. It’s a dope table, very practical and multi functional. Has two pieces that can be used however.... BUT, it’s glass and glass is a pain to keep cleaning and also makes things seem a little more messy because you can see all the crap I store under it. So I decided to do something about it. 

Here’s the table before I worked on it:

Here’s a short step by step of how I did it. This was NOT an original idea. I saw a picture online while I was googling ideas. I knew what to do to make the table wood. I knew I didn’t want to change the legs or anything, though I might eventually change the bottom board to match the surface. BUT I was just curious to see how to take it a step further and found this really cool pic of a wooden table with a succulent box in the center. Had to AT LEAST try it. 

Step 1-3. MEASURE LIKE CRAZY. I measured every inch of the table and the inside as well because the box needed to be able to drop right down in the center of the table without any gaps. Then I went to Home Depot, picked out 2 slabs and had them cut the pieces I needed according to the measurements I had. Then before sanding and staining....I measured again:

I had to wait to stain because it started raining, but once it stopped I stained all the pieces (8 total) and let it dry and set outside for 24 hours.

STEP 4: CONSTRUCTION

Then today, with the Broncos game as my soundtrack, I built the succulent box and attached it to the table top. This shit was NOT as easy as I thought it was going to be. I got the measurements right....but getting it all even and making sure no lines were crooked once I flipped it over (I’m a VIRGO. I undid the screws about 5 times before I was semi-satisfied that all vertical and horizontal lines...I know, i’m crazy):

(Had to clamp down each side of the table so that it didn’t move while I was screwing things in.)

STEP 5: SUCCULENT BOX

The beauty of the design is that all I had to do was take the glass off the table, remove two inside hooks of the table (with a hammer. That shit was fun), and the table top drops right into the frame. Succulent box attached.

After that I lined the succulent box with plastic so that the soil and water didn’t ruin the wood...

Then I added my plants, candles and rocks..... Done! :)

I’m really happy with how it turned out. Mistakes were made and I think if I did it again I could do it in half the time. Also, I’ll probably very rarely light the candles if at all. I just like em. :) I made this thing today, met some friends at a bar to watch the AZ vs. CAM NEWTON game (that’s ALL it was),came home, had a glass of wine like my mother suggested, watched the new X-Files, and realized just how much i’m NOT in my 20s anymore.....I bought succulents to put inside my table that I built....just letting that sink in....
