suckoden wont post his suiko fanon so i am going to post mine
suckoden wont nut up and share his suiko fanon, so i am going to one-up him and hope that it pushes him over the edge
im personally still quite bitter about almost everything that came after suikoden III, but people typically turn off when i talk about that so i'm not going to start complaining, but i can't avoid saying what i think is on all of our minds (especially after reading this)
suikoden needs a true sequel that continues the delicately and intricately lain out stories presented in the first three games; we didn't flock to this series to play games that are spiritual successors to eachother, but because they are actual successors, making them like pre-cut diamonds in the rough hewn landscape of j-rpgs
even though the only man on the planet who could probably realize my dream will probably never agree to do it, it's still important to think about it happening, right? and i bet i'm not the only one who's lain out some fuckin plot points here...
so first off, i need for suikoden iii-2 to touch on windy again; she was treated like so much trash in the first game, in that she was thrown away (literally, out a window) and i think that's a crime; so many other fantastic things were pulled through from one into two and three, but she was left in limbo despite her being the biggest rival to leknaat; in suiko-uno you could feel leknaat's motivation for pushing the story the way she did, she had to stop her sister by playing the complex game of chess with her; this tension could probably be found in sui-3 too since she had a heavy connection with one of the chief antagonists, but in suiko-tooie that motivation kinda collapsed, she was just along for the ride because true runes were involved and her character suffered because of it
suikoden loves leknaat, and because of that it needs windy
number two: suikoden iii-2 should be set close to or partially in harmonia; this isn't necessarily a requirement, but i think that anybody who has played the first three games and read all about suikogaiden could agree with me on it; it'd just be cool to finally see the beast that we've been hearing so much guff about through three damn games and two spinoffs; it offers up a lot of neat locations too, such as the blue moon village and the howling voice guild; if the game was set in harmonia there's basically a bunch of freebie cameos that won't have to work hard to fit into the story (like with edge and the star dragon sword, ugh)
no.3: do something with yuber! the dude went from looking like something from a yoshitaka amano painting to a michael jackson wannabe, but is still arguably one of the most iconc and striking characters in the series; i want to see him on the ropes in this game; maybe someone has taken the eight-fold rune and he has to join the 108 to get it back? just spitballing here, but i want to see some emotion from him and maybe have a good reason to learn some of his past and motivation
so here's where i think i get a little radical with my ideas...
touching on what i said about windy and harmonia before, i think that the plot of suikoden iii-2 should revolve around windy's bitter return from wherever she went to recharge after the end of suikoden i; she comes back into the world looking for another soft spot where she can wheedle her way in, and sees the post grasslands war outskirts of harmonia as a particularly ripe fruit; she begins to see the seed of rebellion in the harmonian state and decides to take control of it by manipulating fate into getting a true rune involved, one should be easy for her to find since we all know that harmonia has started up a collection; after breaking a rune free and awarding it to a bright eyed and befuddled youth, she artificially sets in motion the creation of a new batch of the hundred and eight stars of destiny that will unknowingly forge a new kingdom that she someday hopes to control
obviously that would end up being the subtle underlay of a complexly woven tapestry; the player may not even realize that windy is involved until the very end, perhaps she disguises herself as leknaat, or allows leknaat to award the true rune to the protagonist after manipulating them both from miles away
but in any case this is my suikoden fanon; ante up suikoden fandom
