How do social dynamics work in your au? Do male omegas get treated as less than female omegas or vice versa? Are they equal? I'd love to know lol
Hi I hope you’re seated because I will get into so much detail now it’s not even funny
Basically every human being who is capable of carrying children is primarily assigned the societal role of a cisgender female in 1800s England. It’s less about the primary gender and more to do with the secondary. So it does not matter if you’re female omega, male omega or female beta, if you’re gettin pregnant, you’re getting in the house. So, since this story is focused on some really rich people, let’s talk about landed gentry. That means that anyone that can have children is usually in posses of a dowry or inheritance, and anyone that can impregnate is on the received end of that dowry. Regardless of being a man or a woman, if you’re omega, you are expected to be a home maker and raise the children, engage in activities suited for your gender that are, sometimes, seem as lesser by some people. On the other hand, female alphas are considered the same as any other man, beta or alpha, and often in positions of power in society. In this universe, there are some prejudiced characters that do see omegas as delicate little flowers who should do nothing much besides watercolors and pregnancy and generally think they are a little dim witted because of their hormones. Extremely outdated world view as we know it. Some others do not see omegas as inferior, but agree that they should follow their biology and never question their instincts. And some that will battle against biology, overcome their boundaries or fall prey to their own nature. Heh, this last one is gonna be interesting to see. I have a character arc in the future in which said character will be engaging in omega emancipation and gender equality movements. I wonder who it’s gonna be.
Now, if we are looking at common folk, secondary gender does not matter as much, and neither does the primary. If you gotta work in order to survive, you gotta work, it does not matter what gender you are. Trish is an example of that, as she is a female beta with a job. We will not get into much detail in regards to the common folk since this is a story that revolves around landed gentry and small nobility, but I suppose prejudiced people are everywhere in there as well, and stereotypes of weak omegas and strong alphas are ingrained in people’s minds. We will get a glimpse of how the church works in these circumstances with the arrival of a new character, I wonder if you know who it will be? Hehe.
