It is one of the most embarrassing things that has ever happened to him. He is currently curled up in the furthest corner of the dog kennel he has been forced to get into, his twitching ears taking in all the unfamiliar sounds around him as he pretends to be asleep.
It isn’t the first time that his captor (he refuses to call the man by his name) has forced him to shift from one form into the other, but he has never been trapped like this before. The drive to wherever it is that he has been taken has been rather short and the many unfamiliar smells are overwhelming after his long stay in the basement.
He doesn’t know where he is, he doesn’t know who is with him in the room, but he can hear them move every now and then. It sounds like they are sitting somewhere close and either reading a book or writing on something. There is a nagging feeling at the back of his mind, what if this is part of the “plan” his captor keeps talking about? What if something is about to happen to him that he won’t be able to stop....
It is difficult to hang onto his worried thoughts in this form, the longer he stays a fox, the less important what is happening outside seems to him. He becomes aware of the more basic things, like how hungry he is and how much he misses to be out in the sun. Fresh air. The thrill of a hunt for a rat --
He needs to get out - NOW.
Slowly, the fox gets up and stretches, making sure to make as much noise as he is able to. When he is certain that the person’s attention is on him, he lets out a soft sound, something close to a groan, then sits down, his head hanging low. Another groan, this one sounds like he is in pain... and then he waits.
