My #SundayStack shoutout goes to one of my faves, @bernicelmcfadden👏🏽🥰 ⁣I spoke about Bernice during the #quaranwinetour after I finished #GatheringofWaters... WOW! From the incorporation of monumental historical events, the murder of Emmett Till & Katrina, to symbolism & magical realism this book was outstanding!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ I truly feel she doesn’t get the spotlight that she deserves. More people should be reading and talking about her books! Her writing is incredible & she creates magic with historical fiction. She gets it right!! ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ If you haven’t read her work, what in the world are you waiting on?!? I don’t think she ever writes a bad story. The depth and historical journey of her novels (the ones I’ve read) are amazing. I can always count on Bernice McFadden to increase my awareness, expand my heart and leave me with a feeling of pure bliss when I finish one of her books. I was convinced 20 years ago when I first read Sugar that she was precise with her craft but now I’m 110% confident that her storytelling is on a different level. Her characters are captivating and there’s never a moment when I didn’t want more. This year is her #Sugarversary and a new edition of Sugar is coming soon. Be on the lookout for it!⁣⁣! "It was like a week before Christmas, and I had no idea there was going to be a Christmas party. They said we were gonna go shoot guns and go eat afterwards. So I’m like 'HELL YES!', but when we get there I saw all of the guns and how they were all pretty much bigger than me! Like oh my god I’m about to shoot some of these! We went out to eat at Taco Diner and I got to hear funny stories and watch everyone just be themselves! It was just like watching a family.
