The Quest for Buddhism (1)
Ten epithets for the Buddha
Buddha had ten different epithets, which are called the Jyugo (ten titles). Some Buddhists meditate on (or contemplate) the Buddha as having ten characteristics. These characteristics are frequently mentioned in the Pāli Canon as well as Mahayana teachings, and are chanted daily in many Buddhist monasteries. Details are as follows:
1. Tathagatha - One who appears in truth and shows people the truth, one who has come to the world of truth and from the world of truth is called Tathagatha. In these two words, the Buddha's nirvana is manifested.
2. Arhat - Worthy one.
3. Samyaksambuddha - Perfectly self-enlightened. He is the one who knows correctly about all things and phenomena in the universe.
4. Vidyacaranasampanna - Perfected in knowledge and conduct. According to Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra, the three "enlightenment" refers to the past, present, and future, and the three karma refers to the body, mouth, and mind. Therefore, meaning a person who possesses the three realms of life and karma. According to the Nirvana Sutra, the meaning of the Buddha's feet is "enlightenment," and refers to the three sciences of precepts, rules and wisdom. Buddha attained enlightenment through the three studies of those three sciences.
5. Sugata - One who has renounced superstition and left the world through wisdom. He is also called "good leaving" or "good abiding. It means one who, through the wisdom of the immeasurable, has cut off all vexations and has escaped from the world.

I watched the film “Kagura Me” on a flight a few weeks ago. I had no idea that this was the ending song. I ordered the single a few days prior to that time based on the small clip I listened to on Amazon JP. It was nice hearing the full song earlier than expected. These are the small, stupid things in life that make me happy.
