The forced fusions were like that of a minor nuisance that would linger across the kindergartens and other gem ruins. Most were mainly just creatures that were roaming around those places now, trying to create a de facto living like it might have been for them in the old days.

Though when the world was shaking and the Cluster almost took form, these semi-docile creatures went into a frenzy. No one was hurt, but if the creatures were left unchecked they could have the means to create a loss of human life. Something would be needed to deal with such creatures quickly...something large and powerful.
