We asked Kelley Wyatt (pictured far right) to give some information about her Admitted Freshman Day experience. This is what she had to say: 

Going to Admitted Freshmen Day really opened my eyes to everything Shenandoah has to offer. I personally was born and raised in Winchester, and live super close to campus so I have always known about Shenandoah. With that being said, actually coming to Admitted Freshmen Day really confirmed everything I loved about Shenandoah, and made me realize that this was the school I wanted to spend the next 4+ years at.

Before accepting my application, Shenandoah was my top choice school to go to if I was lucky enough to get in. They have such an amazing Exercise Science program that I was without a doubt wanting to be a part of. I knew the basics of what to expect, but obviously there wasn’t really a way to learn more about it until I actually experienced it… or so I thought. Coming to Admitted Freshmen Day helped me learn so much about what I was going to experience here at Shenandoah both in my major and outside of it. When we broke into our different majors, I was taught so much about what I should expect in Exercise Science and what the program entails. I soon realized that coming to Shenandoah was more than just coming here to get my degree; every student truly does get an experience of a lifetime, and has so many opportunities during their time here at SU.

I hope everyone that comes gets the sense of comfort and love when coming here for Admitted Freshmen Day, because I can assure you, no matter how difficult it gets, Shenandoah is truly a place that I believe anyone would be lucky to call home.

Hey guys, my name is Karisa. I’m a current freshman Nursing student at Shenandoah and this is my story from Admitted Freshman Day last year!

My best friend, Sarah, had gotten invited to the Presidential Scholar’s Breakfast and she took me with her as her “Plus One” since none of her family members were able to attend. We were shown to the breakfast room by a guy named Seth. He was an amazing first impression of the students here at SU. Seth helped Sarah and I relax and made some jokes about how there was “Patsy Cline Hashbrown Casserole… since everything in Winchester is Patsy Cline!” He made sure everything was okay before going to see if there were any other new arrivals. The important thing about this interaction is that Seth and I now have our work studies together in Admissions. We’ve become great friends and the work environment is one that I never want to leave behind.

Sarah and I sat in the back of the room at a table in the corner, hoping we could just eat breakfast and move on from there. Tracy Fitzsimmons, the President of Shenandoah University, had other ideas. After we had all gotten breakfast, she had each of us stand up and introduce ourselves by name, major, and where we are from. Since I wasn’t a presidential scholar, I was thinking, “Oh yeah, I don’t have to do this! Woo!” Again, I was wrong. Tracy had overheard Sarah and I talking to other people in the room, so she knew that I was also an admitted freshman. After Sarah introduced herself, Tracy said to me, “And how about you? Tell us about yourself!” I responded with something really smart like, “Um...are you sure? I’m not a presidential scholar…” She insisted, and I sucked it up and let everyone know that I am an incoming nursing student from Winchester, VA who happens to also be a cheerleader, etc.

The amazing thing about that experience, was that it helped me establish a relationship with not only other freshman, but also the President of the University. It influenced my decision to come here even more. I was really happy that she was so loving and had an urge to get to know me, even though I wasn’t necessarily supposed to be at that breakfast. Tracy treated me as if that’s where I was supposed to be, which made me realize that Shenandoah is where I’m meant to be.
