Gig diary #22: 22/10/03 - 100 issues of Nightshift
Dive Dive / Coma Kai / Suitable Case For Treatment / Sunnyvale Noise Sub-element
The Wheatsheaf, Oxford
Recovery duly made, this was for the 100th issue of Nightshift - one of two or three celebratory shows. I remember being amazingly honoured to be asked to play this show, as Nightshift had SLATED our first demos (quite rightly) but had come round to liking Sunnyvale, umm, once we'd started writing some actual songs. Anyhow, this felt like a BIG THING, and was a really packed-out show - being aligned alongside what I perceived as big names like Dive Dive and SCFT felt like making it. It's funny how your perspective is in your first band with very little experience - the smallest shows can sometimes seem like the biggest deals, and that's what keeps you plugging away. Doing this gig felt like bloody GLASTONBURY.
I recall Ronan, the Nightshift editor, telling me on the night that the mag only had a few issues left in it and was likely to fold any month now. Plus ca change - it's now verging on its 200th issue and he's still saying the same thing.
