Why Science?
I'm a woman...and I am doing science. I will not apologize for not choosing to do anything else. I will not apologize for not liking literature when I was in school and for not being worried constantly about people and how I look. I am a scientist (or I am trying to be), as Marie Curie said once, ''scientists need to be interested in things not in persons." Yes, we are. We are interested in things...in things that you do not understand but you are trying to solve. That's why you need science. Stop considering that science is not commercial enough so there is no point of doing it unless you earn a lot of money. You are alive now and you move and you eat and you support all those ideas of yours through social media because of science. There were scientists, not well known, that their names were never written with golden letters in the books of history but they contributed to this progress. Your everyday life is better because of chemists, doctors, engineers, etc...not because of hairdressers, fashion designers etc. That's the unfair part of the story though. Our world has been turned into a self-centered cell, full of blocks and gals who take care only after their appearance, money and easy life. I don't care If I get paid a high salary as long as I am doing science and I truly help people because some of us we still have ideas and some of us we just look for a better tomorrow even if we don't have a very rich today. Thank you, H2SO4 PS: this goes especially to the t*at who told me that i should quit science and be a makeup artist because they earn more
This was a submission by sulfuricasid - I may not agree with every single point she makes, but I think it is important that everyone sees why it is important for women to pursue science. We just discussed this last week in our chemistry department and it is a conversation I would be more than happy to continue with any of you. Everyone should be able to choose how they spend their lives and nobody should hear that they should choose a different profession for the money. Keep your head up!
