Update #35 of Sullivan's Sluggers
This is not new information, but it may be useful to state it currently. Some backers are stating that they are being ignored in addition to their frustration with fulfillment. Out of 2801 backers, over 2 thousand have received their books. To the best of my knowledge, every domestic shipment has been made. Many international shipments have also successfully arrived. It is no secret that we came up short on the funds for shipping. International is a disaster for a 3.5 pound book. As we raise money from nearly any activity, we send more books. Some of you offered to pay more for shipping, but it takes some time to resume warehouse access, process and ship--even with your help. We are probably 6 to 800 customers from completion. Everyone agrees the book is high quality and packed extraordinary well. This is not a bad faith execution. Unlike many businesses that fail and close their doors, our error is only going to be a delay. We produced the books and shirts. We shipped pallets of them and have more to go. We are very apologetic for the continued delay.
Does anyone else find the discrepancy between those two possibilities kinda staggering? Also talking about how everyone loves the book that you people do not yet have is kinda crazy.
But he shipped 2000 books that is good right.

I honestly don't know how I feel about Kickstarter anymore. Like, it's great that established and semi-established professional comic book creators can take ownership of their work and publish books without dealing with publishers, but what does it mean for the consumer? I would love to support Rocket Girl, a fantastic-looking new project by Amy Reeder and Brandon Montclare, but the lowest I can bid to receive a physical copy of the first issue is 25 dollars (including shipping to Canada). That's a shitload of money to pay for a single issue that would otherwise cost about 4 bucks at my comic book store.
And yes, I know, without Kickstarter it might not get made at all. And there's all kinds of extra "rewards" (which I'm not all that interested in but plenty of people obviously love them) and this project is already funded anyway, so they don't really need my contribution.
I don't know. I'm not trying to say artists are wrong to use it. I would use it to if I had a project that I couldn't get funding for otherwise. But it kind of sucks that this burden falls on the fans. And look, I spend minimum 20 dollars a week on comics, and often much more than that (last week it was over 100 dollars, including a $75 copy of the Kickstarter edition of Sullivan's Sluggers) so it's not like I'm not doing my part.
I'm just saying, it's a sucky situation. That's what publishers are supposed to be for, funding projects. Meh.
