sumitra is no stranger to the spotlight. she made her official debut when she was two years old in a cereal commercial, and has been a child star ever since. maybe she’s not the biggest name in thailand, but she’s definitely up there. people definitely know who she is.
which is why it’s so weird to see her leave.
she spent most of her childhood acting, and when she was eleven, decided she wanted to be a singer, and started practicing for that instead. when she was fourteen, she debuted as a member of the thai group daizee, and that’s where most of her fame came from-- she was very recognizable, and incredibly charismatic. people loved her. she was thailand’s sweetheart.
and she loved it, but as she got older, the more she got bored. she had such an exciting life, but it was the same. she’d been surrounded by the same faces since she was a baby.
the first time she saw a reign music video, she was hooked-- new reign, not old reign (though upon going back and rewatching, she loves them too). they were so much bolder and brighter and cooler than daizee was. the music sounded more dynamic. and the dancing was so much better too. not to mention, center stage, there was matika, another thai girl who sumitra could connect with. she knew that’s where she wanted to go next.
it’s taken a lot of planning and emails and lying to her parents and managers, but she’s finally made the move. and now she’s set to debut in lyncis later in 2021. it’s a huge risk-- everyone at home is livid, all her fans are heartbroken to see her leave, her old groupmates feel betrayed...but for the first time in a long time, sumitra feels alive. this was the best choice for her, and she can’t wait to see how it goes (even if it fails miserably).
