i couldn't for the life of me find it again but i saw this really great post about how rex seems like he has BPD or a cluster b personality and i totally agree and i feel like it fits into markrex quite well for a few reasons. when rex first sees mark and eve arriving together, he has a really dramatically negative reaction even after eve tells him they go to the same high school. i feel like this scene highlights how rex is really insecure about himself and the relationship, and that eve merely being around an attractive guy like mark makes him feel really threatened. he also later makes fun of mark, which isn't abnormal for him but i feel like was to try and make himself feel better about the situation and the perceived rejection he's probably feeling from eve. and when they contain to hang out it made rex feel even worse, so he decides to self sabotage by cheating with kate. and the line kate says to eve is also really telling IMO, because we know he wasn't telling the truth but the fact that he would say she's dating invincible now means he could feel as if that might as well be true, because of a perceived abandonment of him by eve for mark. and for markrex, i think this could also show that rex is insecure about his attraction to mark as well, and probably feels inferior to him.

ik it's not canon that rex has BPD but it would be so interesting to have that type of rep in the show.
also, thank you for listing out the moments those are really still fresh in my mind cause i've started to ship markrex even then.
all of rex's appearances and moments are memorable tbh. and it is highlighted with how he reacts with the things around him (as you listed this includes his dramatic moments, his jealousy, possible feelings of inferiority, and his self-sabotaging ways).
these things does add a certain interesting aspects about markrex's dynamic. and the s2 ep1 is such a blessing tbh.
because in s1 we see markrex in a not-so positive light considering there were moments rex was mean to mark. but mark never really took any of it to heart. which, btw, bless. it speaks how mature mark is and i think it'll be a really good balance with rex's immaturity.
now with their moment on s2ep1, it's such a good change to see them interact this way. you wouldn't think that rex would comfort him — if anything, i genuinely thought the writers would have black samson comforting invincible — but rex was genuine about it. sure it wasn't the most comforting or eloquent reassurance, but it was a genuine attempt coming from rex.
i do have a lil fic in the works for it btw hehe, but that's for another time.
personally i'm looking forward for more markrex interactions. i think they can balance each other really well, the blue-red aesthetic is there too, and the one-sided rivalry to allies to friends to lovers arc is my jammmm 🫶

im certain the rex in s2 ep1 is the shapesmith, because to me his voice sounded very different. and his mannerisms seemed off too, like he was goofy in a way that wasn't him. at first i was worried they changed his voice actor. also kinda sad IMO that no one else on the team noticed something was off
big fan of a character being replaced and no one knew what was up. the potential for "i should've known" and "i'm sorry i didn't realize it sooner". the moment the character was replaced goes "you guys never really knew me, it's not your fault".
but i don't think rex was replaced.
he was goofy, check. but he was also still his jerky, antagonistic self. and i don't really get that jerky or antagonistic vibe from shapesmith in the trailer, he felt more of a goofy and silly dude that might be a lil over his head with the hero gig but he's enthusiastic and trying.
another thing to consider from the trailer was shapesmith's line: "i call me... the shapesmith." shapesmith's sentence structure is different, which is understandable cause he's an alien and adjusting. so i'm convinced rex is still himself in the first ep.

i can't focus on one specific thing that i like about her the most cause she wasn't as exposed to us audience as other side characters were like eve and cecil 😭😭 so uhhhh,,,, i hope you don't mind me dumping all these thoughts on her ahadhsahajshaha
i really liked her in the flaxxans episode!! when robot gave instructions to everyone in the team, he told kate to keep doing what she's doing. i love how it implied she's a competent hero. you'd often see teen heroes be portrayed as too eager and/or too reckless at that age (which isn't a problem, more of an observation), but she's a very focused and efficient in what she does.
also i'm on her side, she didn't do anything wrong on purpose. she seemed genuine when she saw eve look hurt and told her that rex told her that eve was "seeing invincible now" 😭😭 this one was on rex. i firmly believe she wouldn't have had sex with rex if she knew he was still involved with someone, she would have done that wayyy earlier in the show if that wasn't the case (and you see him screw it up too with saying that kate's copy is not even "the real kate" 💀)
and in the battle beast scene, she didn't have moments to really shine there like rex and black samson. but it does show, that along with shrink rae, that when it comes to team fights she acts as a good support :3
spoiler time!! this is about her in the comics, i haven't read it but i got some info about her from my moots <33 this is a pretty mild thing tho, nothing concerning the plot: she's one of the best dressed there hehe. i really like her style so i hope she gets to wear casual outfits in season 2
okay now this is pretty spoiler-y so you can skip this part just in case. if you go back to the episode that showed the mauler twins in their cells, you'll see a guy that has copies of himself in one of the cells. that's multi-paul - and he's kate's twin brother!! she got the trope of "hero character with a villain sibling". even when paul is a villain, they both care a lot about each other. special mention to our local paul ceo: @spellbook-gayboy btw!! kate and paul wrote letters to each other even when they on different teams.
UPDATE: i rewatched s1 and that scene where samson reviewed where they went wrong on their last fight with the lizard league, kate was the one that was openly humble about it. rex complained how overbearing samson is with the ordeal but she didn't turn down samson's points. she's open to criticism and is not afraid to let rex know that he could do better too.
whatever that card olga gave debbie was about- I really hope it means we'll get to see more of her, especially with debbie.
It's so great of invincible to not only improve on the original content (which is what an adaptation SHOULD be) but also continue to keep their writing topnotch. they picked up the events from the first season so wonderfully so far and adapting the story from the comics in a way that keeps both show and comic fans on their toes. Huge appreciation for everyone working on the show
ANON SAMEEEEE, i really wanna see more of olga. although i sincerely hope that the card isn't for some,,,, cult shit the red and black color and ominous morse looking detail got me suspicious.
and you're right, the invincible show writers really set up the standard with making adaptations. all of the changes they did with debbie are all so good (and olga is a good example of that - a fellow super's wife and grieving her husband who's also debbie's friend).
as important it is to show supportive parents, i deeply appreciate how they showed that parents need support too. and said support came from a fellow adult that shared a similar experience.
because let's face it, mark wouldn't be able to help console his mom the same way olga did. but that's okay. the show was realistic with it, with the way they had mark helping in a way that he can: providing comforting hugs and helping with preparing dinner.
Imagine the show integrates the Witchblade anime as the comics take place in the same universe as Invincible and this is who Debbie is dating:
