Day 49 - 9.9.2013 - Play by Play, Haml, CSS, Client side

This weekend both of us were busy bees: Tam got some CSS beauty done and Susanne introduced Event Girl to Haml. Our first task today therefore was to merge our two awesome branches into our even more awesome master! 

Then we continued with watching an episode of play by play with programming masterminds Corey Haines and Aaron Patterson. In this episode both of them are - just like the two of us - working on an event tracking system. Theirs is almost as good as ours. Good job guys, you're well on your way! While we're watching we tweeted Corey Haines and Aaron Patterson and to our surprise Corey tweeted us back. We believe that our coaches, or rather the entire IT department, are jealous of our new tweeting buddy. 

After we calmed down, we continued working on our index cards. Next up: Creating a Client Side MVC. This feels like the good old days (two months ago) when we were just starting our app. But now we are playing around with Haml and Simple Form as well. 

Another very important thing that happened today: We put up a new link on our blog that is called "HIRE US". It's pretty self-explanatory. Please click on it - and hire us. Thanks!

Day 32 - 15.8.2013 - Radio buttons and talking at Soundcloud

I'm back! Mwahahahahaaaaa (Tam)

Tam spent much of the morning reading up on all the cool stuff Susanne had done while she was away, and then attempting to pull from a remote branch onto a local branch, which really wasn't that difficult but sometimes git can be scary and we live in perpetual fear that somehow we'll delete everything forever. 

After a quick stand-up meeting where we realized some of our migrations that we made on Monday were wrong, we deleted a a column in our expected events database, renamed it, and set forth towards the world of radio buttons. 

Putting them in the form wasn't that hard, but making the input show in the index view (and saving the information), was. For some reason when we clicked 'forward' (our two input possibilities are forward or backward), it was saved as backward. Or, according to the console, it just wasn't saved at all. After multiple attempts at fixing it, we called Felix over, and ten minutes later everything was working just fine. Thanks Felix! (again).

After lunch we headed up to the Soundcloud offices with our trusted IT department and a few mädels from Absolventa in tow. Together with Laura from Rails Grrls, Ola who is a part time volunteer student, and Duana who works at Soundcloud and moderated, we gave a talk about the Rails Girls Summer of Code and 'changing careers'. 

It was a bit scary, as we're not used to talking in front of so many people with a microphone, and Tam talked too fast, but all in all we're proud of ourselves and for getting up there in front of everyone and talking about the progress we've made. It's also cool to see that so many people are interested in learning to code, and that there's an even bigger support group out there.

Apparently there's audio... and video... eek.

Now we're off to a learning session with our guerrilla coach Julius. :)
