Taeko Onuki | Summer Connection
Taeko Onuki - Summer Connection
summer connection - taeko ohnuki
"SUNSHOWER" (1977) by Taeko Ohnuki (大貫妙子). Her second album it's a very notable improvement over the first one. First of all, the cover show us the essence of Japanese minimalism, with a smooth complexion, without any imperfection; in my opinion, it catches the nature of the album in a very good way. SUNSHOWER has a very jazz-funk vibe and it's enjoyable from start to finish.
The record begins with "Summer Connection", which shows us how the way of the album will be, produced with delicious wind instruments and beautiful melodies that will join us on this new trip. "都会" is another summer-like song, but this time the synthesizers take control and transform it into a very catchy song, typical travelling music. "からっぽの椅子" is the core of the album, emotional and heartbreaking; it describes the feeling of loosing the person you love, the one you got away, but in a minimalist and simple way, without any ornament, becoming speechless at the first listen. Another groovy track is "Silent Screamer", but the jewels of SUNSHOWER are the bonus tracks, "部屋" and "荒涼", songs that are so moving that they leave us breathless. This is the way how the Japanese city pop songs must be done.
Without a doubt, I could listen to this album a thousand times and I would always be surprised by Taeko's ability to create such perfect melodies. Delightful.
