Me Right Now:
Watching the Islanders Blue & White Scrimmage game on my computer, rooting for the blue team [who are winning 5-3] while watching Summer Ice on my TV [MSG+].
My most sentimental, all-time favorite Isles game – and the first hockey game I’ve ever attended.
Isles vs Pens: Okposo gets his first hat trick, my hatred for Crosby is born, & we win 6-3. 😊💕😊

Hockey has taken over my life
When I was 8 years old I went to my first hockey game ever. I sat in the nose bleed section thinking meh this will be fun but I probably won’t get into it much. Boy oh boy was I wrong. That year was the first season of our new home team. They were pretty good and man did I love the hitting and fighting. I loved the atmosphere and I needed to know more about this memorizing sport that the world had just dropped in my lap.
I taught myself about the game simply by watching and figuring out what was going on when a ref blew a whistle.
The next season I got a 14 game pack for my birthday and the seats were in the 2nd row behind the home net. When I was at games I didn’t move from my seat. I still needed to learn more and there were new things always coming up. The year after that I started going to every home game and buying tickets when I didn’t have tickets from my packet. For the next 7 years I didn’t miss a game unless my soccer schedule conflicted with it.
I became friends with the players and we hung out and had some laughs. My mom thought I was obsessed with the players but really it was the game.
I dated a guy who played for a local juniors team and they became my new home. I went to every game for 5 years and worked the penalty box the last two.
This juniors team is where I met my honey. He taught me rules I never knew existed. He has helped me expand my knowledge without getting mad at me for asking questions that may seem silly to him.
I spend my weekends in a rink from October-March only to spend summer in a rink as well. Some people hate that and let their man go do open ice with the boys and don’t bother coming. I on the other hand can’t get enough, I enjoy seeing the playful B out on the ice during the summer ice times as opposed to serious B during the season.
This relationship is everything we want and more because it was built on a foundation we both know and love. I can not imagine my life without this sport and although I don’t play it has become a big part of who I am and helped build my character.
I can never get enough of the lifestyle.
