Things I should be doing more of:

-Making/saving money

So I just wrapped up teaching a term of reading program classes for the Institute of Reading Development. I taught eleven classes--everything from kindergartners to adults. I feel like I had a rocky start (my first day was nearly 7 hours of teaching, plus 3 hours of prep and talking with parents--WAY too much for a first day), but I eventually settled into my role as a teacher.

In fact, I have to say that I LOVE teaching. It's weird finally having a job that feels like a calling. I've tutored quite a bit, but honestly...I haven't always enjoyed that. Usually, I worked with students who had no motivation and wanted me to do all the work for them. As a teacher, though, my whole job was to teach a lesson and motivate the students. Same general purpose of a tutor, but this is much easier to do from a position of authority. I could call students out on their BS and give honest assessments about their progress. It was a highly detailed job that included crazy amounts of people skills (I've improved mine this past month more than I have over the past few years), but it was awesome. 

Now...bad news. IRD told me after I finished up my first term that their enrollment for July classes are so low they didn't have any to give to me. They said I'm not being "fired," since they would give me work if they had it. But it's still majorly disappointing. I liked my job, but honestly...I didn't always like my employers. I've worked for companies/organizations that have treated their employees a lot better. And leaving me hanging without a job, especially when they knew I needed employment for the whole summer, is pretty low. In addition, I had lots of positive feedback from students and parents. It was really frustrating to put my all into a job--and succeed--and then get let go anyway.

So I'm not sure yet what I'm doing for the rest of my summer. I've reached out to my old boss in customer service, and she may be able to hook me up with something short-term, but nothing's for sure. This summer has really helped me realize that employment--regardless of where it is--is a blessing. I wish I was one of those people who never hurt for money, but I am. I have a very real coffee addiction, and when I have money coming in, I tend not to watch the bank very closely. But next year will be very expensive for me, so I'm feeling it. 

In other news, having the past few days off was marvelous. Last Tuesday was my last day teaching (also when I learned that I wouldn't be teaching more come this week...great timing, guys), and I've been off since then. This past week, I've:

-Driven Joseph around as he gets his brakes fixed

-Visited my old nCourt peeps

-Played through Halo 4

-Finally finished Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

-Watched fireworks

-Bought way too much alcohol that I have yet to drink

So this is clearly my list-making post. I'll jump off so I can figure out what workout I can do today that does not require going out into the blazing sun. Perhaps a strength training workout while watching 30 Rock? Those are the best.

Teaching summer camp in the Guosing Township within the mountains of Taiwan has by far been one of the best experiences I've had here. Not only is it beautiful in the mountains, but the culture of Taiwan and it's origins can be found in this town populated with aboriginal tribes and citizens. (6/29/2014-7/2/2014)

Life is too busy. I'm still adjusting to my weekends being Wednesday-Thursday. All I want to do is sleep in on those days, but I've got chores and non-work related stuff (and some work-related stuff, because my job requires loads of overtime) to do.

Tonight I bought a six-pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade and did a drinking game with Joseph and Kurt while watching Fellowship of the Ring. Gotta find some way to cut loose, right?

(We ran out of alcohol quickly, btw. And we didn't even finish the movie!)

The hardest thing about teaching is (so far):

Having feet so sore that you feel like you're walking on pins and needles. Yesterday I stayed standing up for nearly 10 hours. No bueno. Anyone know any sore feet remedies or tips?
