These are summer apples growing on a plantation where my great great grandfather fought in a battle to help end slavery. The apples are the same historic heirloom variety grown on the property during the battle which took place in the 1860s. My great great grandfather was 24 years old at the time and lost some of his eyesight as a result of his service in the Civil War. Technically it is the tomato that is known as the “love apple” but in this case, I think that nickname serves these guys just fine. 🍏 History really hits home when you can walk in the actual footsteps of your ancestors. 🍏 - - - - #apples #summerapples #ancestors #orchard #civilwarhistory #familystories #americancivilwar #plantation #appleorchard #heirloomapples #history #heirloomfruit https://www.instagram.com/p/B0ckfdugex1/?igshid=nfyfitvv0wkw
