I can't believe I finished the Summer Conservatory at Stella Adler Studio of Acting in NYC! At the end of ten illuminating weeks, I have a certificate in hand, and a bright new pair of eyes through which to see the world! Off to more #adventures in #chicago tomorrow! #summeratadler #stellaadler #nyc #actress #acting #workinprogress #praisegod #thankful #graduation #pineappledress (at Stella Adler Studio of Acting)
I am three days in and cannot believe how amazing it has already been and am so excited for how this summer is going to be. I want to document today so I never forget it - and to remind myself that this time last week I was waking up in a cold sweat from nightmares about meeting new people, moving to a new city, new classes, roommates, friends, subway rides alone... I just feel very accomplished with how many little hurdles and fears I've overcome
woke up at 7:30, was out the door at 8:15
take the 1 train to the 14th street stop, transfer to the 2, take it to 28th street.
pop into a local cafe (i change it up each day) for some coffee and breakfast
Head to the studio around 9
9:30 - voice and speech (oh my god my teacher has the hottest fucking voice i have ever been in the presence of seriously this is going to be a problem)
11 - Scene study, where I was already acknowledged by my professor for attitude/effort by volunteering to double my workload of outside rehearsals/playreadings by doubling up with another student who didn't have a partner when no one else would - but joke's on everyone else, I'm here to learn and get feedback so the more opportunities I get and eyes I have on me, the better!
12:30 - Stella Adler technique. All about humanity and existence. what I'm all about.
2 - classes end, decide to go exploring through Manhattan
I walked along 7th Avenue from 27th Street to 40th, for a drama book/play store all of our professors encouraged us to check out (IT'S AMAZING)
Spent some time there reading plays before heading to 42nd street and absorbing some more of the culture of times square
Hope onto the Subway and take the 1 line downtown, transfer to the 2 at the 14th street stop to take it back to Brooklyn when I pass a map that at a glance tells me that the "Chambers Street" exit is closest to the 9/11 memorial
Hop on the train, impulsively get off on Chambers street.
>>stupidly, I have not picked up a map of New York or of subway stops, so i cannot emphasize how much i was just winging it<<
...that being said, I didn't know exactly how to get to the memorial, but having just been there this past weekend I knew things would eventually look familiar.
SO, I looked up, saw a big building I knew was close by the memorial, and sure enough found my way there.
Sat at the memorial reading one of the plays I bought, spent some time walking around the memorials tracing names with my fingers and thinking too much
SOMEHOW made my way back to the subway station. combination of re-tracing my steps, getting momentarily lost (don't tell my mom) but ended up wandering around to the right corner. whew.
Exhausted, spent the evening in the lounge sending emails and reading more plays and meeting some new people. This dorm building is so amazingly diverse, I have met incredibly cool people - just from living here - from all over (Brazil, Canada, The Middle-East, England) all with amazing internships and stories.
