The Countdown of a Fledgling: Day Seven
One of my fondest memories from when I was little was all the movies I used to watch. There weren't any DVDs or VCDs then. It was all VHS. Yes, I am a nineties kid. I used to wake up in the morning and just look into my small collection of VHS tapes and expertly work the controls on our VHS player at home. I can't even remember how I learned which buttons to press, but I did and I'd have a blast watching Cinderella sing and Snow White bake with her forest friends.
So, movies, especially the rom-com and love story kind, have always been a favorite past-time of mine. I've explored different genres and have evolved from cartoons and girly stuff to action-packed films and superheroes. But the occasional favorites often crawl back to memory and I'd end up hunting them down on the internet and downloading them.
This morning, I had a little throwback and watched "The Prince and Me". I now remember and realized how much this movie has charmed me and has made me believe that fairytales don't just exist in the pages of dusty old books. Yes, it's just some movie, but to me, it's sparked something that makes me hope for my own once upon a time.
Movies are our way of holding on to our fantasies and having some tangible and visible proof that we can hope for whatever it is that our heart desires. These films have somehow made me believe that the unusual will often lead to something amazing and movie-worthy. It's like they've given me an affirmation that I'm not crazy and that my imaginations actually aren't all that eccentric and odd.
Well, one big factor in movies is the music. Ah, music. My big love, if you will. Music has always been there. In fact, it has been sort of a bookmark for me--different songs remind me of different times in my life. I'm sure it's not just me when I say that a song can bring back memories and remind you of certain days and moments.
Music also plays a big part in my life and in my family. My mom used to sing us to sleep with a song from one of her favorite bands and play music on early weekday mornings while we're getting ready for school. It's a passion our family shares.
Last night, my sister and I were jamming with my guitar, singing songs from our favorite artists. Then, Mama came into the room and joined us. We started singing Taylor Swift's "I'd Lie" and we ended up making a cover of it (if you wanna listen to it, it's the post made before this one and would probably appear after this). We had a blast and we just bonded. It's one of the things I'll always look back fondly and will look forward to doing again. Nothing like making a little family cover of an awesome song, right?
These two things--movies and music--have completely stolen my heart for the past two days. I can't imagine the world without them, I just can't. As long as there are good movies and good music, I'll be more than fine. Have a movie marathon or a little concert in your room for me, will you?
