I wish I could say yoga alone is the key to a healthy body, but it’s REALLY not. I used to be extremely lazy about my skincare regiment, but the older I get the more I realize that it’s important to set good habits for yourself at a young age so you can continue them for life. I have extremely sensitive skin, to the point where I basically never wear makeup foundation and never use scented body lotions for fear of random breakouts. Here are a few items I use to keep my unruly skin under control:
1. Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Peppermint Soap- I used to swear by African Black Soap before I fell in love with Dr. Bronner. I still love ABS (especially with shea butter), but Dr. Bronner’s leaves me with a squeaky clean feeling that I’ve come to crave.
2. vanityplanet’s Spin For Perfect Skin- Ok, I’m literally obsessed with this little gadget and I definitely didn’t expect to be so in love. The brush heads are SO therapeutic- my mind is constantly working in overdrive, and the brush massage feels heavenly after a long day. I like to make it a little ritual- post shower, when my pores are relaxed, I will sit on my toilet and brush my face with Dr. Bronner’s. For someone who can’t afford regular massages or facials, it feels pretty damn luxurious. In fact, when I pull out my spin brush, I call my bathroom “Jessamyn’s Spa”- throw in some candles and an effervescent beverage and shit can feel FANCY, y’all.
It’s pretty pricey ($100), but Vanity Planet is offering you guys 70% OFF using the code ‘SPIN84‘. I wouldn’t say this if it wasn’t true, but this brush is actually worth the money and it makes me skin feel incredibly.
3. Dr. Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt Foaming Bath- My muscles take a beating each week, and epsom salt soaks have become my most basic medicine. I usually just drop a full 3-4 pound sack of epsom salts in my tub and add a generous pour of this bubble bath- the lavender is extremely soothing and calming.
4. Gel Masks- My friend Whitney hooked me up with one of these earlier this summer and now I’m in love. I particularly love Ulta’s hydrogel masks, but I also like these really cheap (~$2) masks that you can find at Target.
5. Summer Love Scrub- This coffee based scrub kind of weirded me out initially because it smells kind of strange and the brown mixture got all over my shower within moments of opening the package. However, my skin was so glowy and dewy after using it that it was easy to forget the other issues. I am extremely picky about face scrubs because my skin is so sensitive, but this scrub is actually particularly good for people with specific skin problems like psoriasis, eczema, etc.
