it’s a quintessential skill for any good filmmaker: conveying character identities with impact, style, and intrigue. it was what his professor had in mind in assigning this project, where students were matched to those from all walks of campus life and tasked with the single task of ‘capturing their essence,’ however they might choose. in any other context, he’d consider such a thing to be tedious, cringeworthy, and more fit for a self-improvement instagram account that he’d personally never follow. nevertheless, he’s determined to do well. at least it didn’t require introspection on his end, instead focused on someone else. moreover, he actually cares about film and photography, and despite his usual rogue spirit and maverick tendencies, he can get truly dedicated to the things he cares about.
so dedicated, that he’s arranged with his muse (albeit, his assigned and temporary muse) to shoot for the project even though school is technically out. they’d have more time next semester, but break was a convenient time to get some shots in settings beyond the usual campus and during a different season, which happens to be of her namesake. and that’s got to count for something, right? anyways, he asked her to meet him at haneul park, one of seoul’s most scenic, because you can’t go wrong with how vibrant everything there is during this time of year. plus, he vaguely recalls her mentioning something about liking plants during their previous few meetings. it’s funny how the premise of their relationship is. they’re only just past that initial acquaintance phase, but he’s expected to learn all he can about her, very quickly and without necessarily having to reciprocate in the amount of sharing.
spotting her in the distance, he watches as she approaches with an attentive gaze, though he’s cautious not to seem like he’s checking her out or something. he’s making an effort to be highly observant, which is foreign for someone who himself rarely heeds about the opinion of others. more practically, he’s noting the colors in her outfit, taking guesses as to which camera settings would work best in this lighting. point being, he swears he’s not into her in that way, the way which would explain why most other guys would pay such careful attention to a girl they only knew superficially... but alright, he does admit that if all else fails, he’d at least have her visuals to fall back on. pretty shots of a pretty girl should warrant at least a passable grade, no? snapping out of it, he greets her with a light smile now. “hey! thanks again for doing this -- agreeing to meet me outside of school, when we have actually have some say over our time for once.”
