Summer Slide Prevention Guide
As Summer is in full effect, and family regimes change, parents might be wondering about how to avoid losing all of the learning their kids did during the school year. According to the National Summer Learning Association, which invests in summer learning to help close achievement gaps, all students experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer months. Most kids lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills. The “Summer slide” refers to the loss of school over the Summer, however, it can be prevented. Ensuring that your child is building essential reading and math skills will provide a solid foundation for their future.
Parents can explore these free online resources so that Summer can be a time of learning and growth for your child.

As the Summer slide starts, kids think that it is the best time to do nothing but play all day. They believe that they have escaped the daily routine of school, and now they don't have to think about it all.

#Repost @hereweeread (with @report.for.insta) ... The “summer slide” that no parents want their children to ride is upon us once again. During this time of the year I’m often asked for tips on preventing the “summer slide”. As @hellojenjones states in this wonderful quote, if children already love reading, the chances of them stopping over the summer months are slim. If they are provided with books and other tools, a designated space for reading/learning, and have 20-30 minutes of scheduled reading built into their daily days, that should help. What other tips would you add to this list? How do you prevent the summer slide in your home?👇🏾#summerslideprevention #summerslide 📷: @hellojenjones #readeveryday #stopthesummerslide (at Atlanta BeltLine) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByQQoaJJbYy/?igshid=o1b79grpdn0i
