August 10, 2016 – This year’s Summer Stage concerts and shows in the park have been absolutely amazing. The line up has been enriching; full of the diverse culture, which New York City is so famous for.
I was so lucky to be in attendance for this captivating show featuring Tamar-Kali with `Ase Dance Theatre collective and Nathantrice/ Rituals Dance Theater.
The night opened up with Nathantrice/ Rituals Dance Theater performing Strange Love (an adaptation). I was captivated from the very beginning, as the dancers moved around the stage with such elegance and poise; I became memorized and sucked into the characters on stage. A connection was formed; I found myself reminiscing of past and current relationships saying, “I know how that is”, “ I’ve been there before”. The combination of music and choreography painted such a vivid picture in my mind I couldn’t help but wonder what motivated Nathan Trice to create such a master piece of work. Was this true-life experience being played out in artistic expression? The piece captured the essence and all the subtle nuances of this dance we go through, with this thing called love.
My words do no justice in fully describing this masterpiece; I was left in awe of the skill and unique vision, which Nathan Trice so gracefully put together to form this work of art. It was an outstanding performance, which left me wanting more.
After a brief intermission Tamar-Kali took the stage with `Ase Dance Theatre for the second half of the show. As Tamar- Kali’s commanding voice echoed through the speakers my soul began to move, it wanted to dance, I felt empowered to just let go and be me, be free. Where the first half of the show made me look deep inside and analyze past and present events of my soul. This second half just wanted me to let go. As some one who is usually reserved I found myself yelling and screaming jumping up and down; I was spirited away. With rhythmic grace `Ase dancers moved across the stage to Tamara’s powerful soulful seductive voice, I began to feel the music; no longer just hearing ;I became part of the performance, I was wrapped up in ecstasy.
Tamar-Kali’s energy by her self was intoxicating, but with `Ase in the forefront with their powerful, elegant movement gave an invigorating uncontrollable soulful feeling, I couldn’t help, but empowered to do what ever came naturally.
The show was filled with amazement and wonderment, I would recommend to any one if your interested in a soul touching experience anyone of the three Tamar- Kali, `Ase Dance Theatre or Nathantrice/ Rituals Dance Theater to fulfill that requirement.
