Hi to all my readers,

I’m finishing up some semester stuff (papers which I love and grading which I don’t haha) but then I’m excited to get back to my fic projects and posting! I have Wives and Sweethearts (plus Saltwater ep three tentatively titled “Eyes on the Horizon” which is a clue to the plotline if you look for its original context in the fic 😉) and I’ll be participating in MHEA which will be published in August, as well as a fic and a ficlet for the NotAloneHere auction winners! So sorry for the short break, and I can’t wait to share with you soon!

49: Writing advice

thanks for this ask! 

My only advice for writing is to write about things that make you feel something! Whether its something you love, or hate, or a weird movie that only you like that you think would make a great AU. Do it! There’s nothing I love more to write OR to read as an AU or what have you which is clearly written by someone who loves the subject matter. I never thought Victuuri would make a good Roman Gods AU and yet it was one of the best fics I ever read because I could tell the writer loved what they were writing about. Our Sublime Refrain was the easiest thing I ever wrote because @queliotpasta and I love to see Quentin and Eliot in flowing white shirts playing piano. There’s a million beautiful niche stories to be written out there. 

My only other advice about writing is don’t edit it to death. We’re writing fanfiction for free! let the story come, ask a good friend to read it for major typos, and let it go out into the world. Anyone who complains about a misplaced comma or one “their/they’re/there” isn’t worth your time or attention. Writing is supposed to be a creative outlet and a labor of love, not a source of anxiety, so enjoy putting out the stories you want to see in the world.

Hey there! All of the quotes on our edits come from A Softer World comics, which you can check out at asofterworld.com if you’d like - we just take the quotes that we like and merge them with The Magicians scenes (we do credit the original comics, there’s a note in the frame of each edit). 

So you are absolutely welcome to use the quote, but you might be better off crediting e home and j comeau and/or asofterworld.com.
