Remember, remember! The fifth of November! It isn't "gun powder treason and plot," but a sun cannon (also known as a noon gun) is made to fire at high noon when the sun hits the magnifying glass at the right angle. This particular cannon was made circa 1780. The inscription reads, "L'ING R. CHEVALLIER OPTICIAN DU ROI, PLACE DU PONT NEUF A PARIS."
