Sunday Circle 2018/06/10
So I normally do my Sunday Circle over at Pete Ball’s site, but he’s off celebrating his lovely partner’s birthday this weekend, so there’s no post. Here’s a good description of what it is - it’s basically a lightweight way of getting the head straight and targeted for the week.
What am I working on this week?
This week is primarily moving house. Pulling up the last stumps to get ready to move. Other than that, my main priority is keeping the day job moving, which always tends to come to the forefront when my own creative work has to take a backburner. It feels more important in that situation to make sure the day job is happy with my work as it keeps moving without me. Also finalising a PAX panel submission.
What’s inspiring me this week?
I’ve started on an audiobook of The Corporation That Changed the World, which looks at the history of the British East India Trading Company, and it’s fascinating. Almost all of the patterns and behaviours that make corporations troublesome have been around since the 1600s. And the primacy and power that the trading company has compared to the sovereign nation that spawned it comes as a complete surprise. Continuing to read through Joe Abercrombie’s The Heroes as well. Starting to get a hankering for something with a similar tone exploring a cyberpunk/post-cyberpunk world.
Other than that, the idea of moving into a new space that provides stability and continuity (at least for the next year) to make new dreams and explore new ideas is getting exciting.
What action do I really need to take?
This one is purely preparing to move. Everything else, including lead generation, is triaged at the moment.
