Can't really pretend this wasn't changed to eliminate a bit of fanservice. Does kind of make Shinobu's line a little less funny. Though, it was an oddly meta-line in the first place. Apparently the original anime had Lum's guards follow them back in time so they were watching, though I enjoyed the meta-aspect of the line in the manga. Anyway, I always wondered if this was inspired by Blues Brothers (the movie came out in 1980, so the timeline works), but the guards have been sunglasses and suits for a while in the series so it might just be a coincidence.

I commissioned @starlightshore for a Harvest Moon 64 // Earthbound crossover art piece and I LOVE IT. Gonna put it in a nice frame and give it to my sister-in-law (Who gave me those cute hats). This is the perfect gift for her and the quality is AMAZING.

I loved this sequence. The scene with the sunglasses squad playing cards and cleaning their shotguns was from the previous page, but this extended building bursting was great and remarkably smoothly animated. I can only assume the bodyguard on the can is reading Shonen Sunday, but I can't tell. Sorry for the screenshot quality, hard to get one of a scene in motion like this.

As you can tell, there were a few more interesting costumes for the sunglasses squad in the anime. Including some references to other meda, like having a Mother of Ultra costume or one of Q-taro from Obake no Q-taro. Also, Lum dips her feet into the water rather than her finger. But I guess this was easier to animate.

For whatever reason, they changed Mendo's bondage method from chains to ropes for this portion, even though he was obviously hanging from the ceiling with chains. I feel this hurts the coolness of the later sequence when Mendo breaks out though. Also, for either concerns of replicable violence or simply to streamline the animation, fighting the guards for their uniforms was replaced with Lum shocking them all. This is pretty disappointing because I loved seeing how the three different girls handle this task differently. Plus, I love Shinobu pulling out school desks out of nowhere.
