(Hey all! I’m gonna try to get back into the swing of things now that my charity work is all finished up. So expect some actual replies to threads and memes and all that good stuff over the next few days. Also, I added music to the blog! It is completely optional but I hope you’ll all enjoy it. I actually have an app on my phone that tells me how many earth hours and how much through the day each planet is. As if 12:11 pm eastern it's 77% through its day)

(That sounds pretty sweet, Nonny! I’m assuming it’s set to Coordinated Mars Time (MTC) since that’s what most Earth-Mars converters use.

If you want, you can also check out Mars date converters. I do things by the Darian Calendar since I like how nicely regulated it is, almost like a metric calendar. But there is also the Martiana Calendar which was created to fix the problem with the Darian Calendar having to drop a day once a quarter by rotating which day of the week the months start on. The calendars also differ in having different names for the months and days, though both sets are taken from astronomy.

Either way, you can use the converters to find out things like your Martian birthday. Mine is 28 Tula 199 by the Darian or 28 Ursa 199 by the Martiana.)

It didn't feel funny, it felt rude and kind of condescending. I mean, we can see the rest of Helios too - why bother reblog a meme about his looks at all? Not to mention, telling people to buy the game, but not everybody has $20 just lying about.

(At this point, Anon, I don’t think anything I can say will make you happy as we are just on two different wavelengths here. I’ll give it a shot though because you’re clearly very concerned about this.

1. As I stated, what I did was nothing personal against you. In fact, when this all started, all I had to go on is that you are a person who wanted me to describe Helios’ cock and nothing else. If you took my response as rude or condensing when I intended it to be humorous, well, I’m sorry to have upset you. I’m well aware that communicating humor via text is tricky and I have no control over your reactions to what I do. By the same token, when you send someone a meme, you do so with the knowledge that they will respond however they feel is most appropriate and for me, that was my brand of comedy.

2. I reblogged that meme because I wanted to talk about things that aren’t readily apparent in-game. So on the skin one, I talk a lot about color and texture, which are things the game doesn’t communicate. To me, most of the description of a cock is its physical properties which are quite clear in the CGs. And I did include several of those details in my original response so it’s not like I ignored your request entirely.

3. I feel no shame about telling people in jest to spend $20 on a luxury item – which a pornographic dating sim clearly is. Fandom isn’t always free and I gladly save up my money to afford it and support creators whose work I enjoy. I don’t think there is anything wrong in telling people to do the same, especially when I gladly paid $40 to have beta access to the game and all the digital backer rewards.

Finally, Anon, if you legitimately want to continue this conversation, I ask that you do so under an account where I can talk to you one on one. I feel that I’ve spent more than enough time and energy on this issue at this point. My advice to you is to let this go and move on because there are so many things in this world worthier of your attention than how a Helios RP blog responded to your request to describe a fictional penis.)

(Well, nonny, here is the deal – I love writing bawdy fandom humor. That’s why there’s Threeway Thursday on this blog – because I find it funny. That’s why I turned my response to your meme reply into a joke. It is 100% nothing personal - I live by the rule that if I find something humorous and laugh when thinking out my response, that’s what I’m going to post.

And the thing is, there really isn’t much for me to add or room for me to headcanon about Helios’ cock. It’s a cock. It’s a nice one but it is still just a cock. Yah, it’s fun to write about it in the middle of a sex scene but that’s kinda it. If you’ve learned anything by reading my blog it’s that I’m much more interested and can go on for far longer about Mars be it the geography or the society because that is stuff I really do have to think carefully about.

So while the prompt was very much appreciated because I had a lot of fun answering it, do understand why I reacted the way I did and that it’s just me being me.)

OMG. YOUR ANSWER IS SO DETAILED AND SO REALISTIC HOLY SHIT. CAN WE HAVE YOU RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT PLIS. omg. I definitely can understand what you mean by Mars being an extension of Earth. And that every big name company is vying for a piece of Mars for whatever purposes. It's sad to see that Mars is practically a tourist site for the rich and privileged from Earth. Martian citizens must be pissed as hell. I wonder if Martians ever feel like they're mere livestock being traded around. Pawns.

(Ha, I would only accept presidency of fictional Mars. But really, thank you. My actual degree is in history and I find Gilded Age/Imperial politics to be something that should be well-studied for how exploitative they were.

As for companies with political power, that is a speculative fiction trope I really enjoy and felt right to include within my HCs. The exact political landscape of Starfighter is a little hard to work out – like is Mother only a figurehead or does she wield any real executive powers for example? But the idea of a company with enough money and influence to basically buy up all the land on another planet and build colonies for the sole purpose of profit, that is something very real. (Look at the history of Pullman, Chicago for an example.)

However, while I do feel there would be a lot of resentment of colonists against Earth, I don’t think it’s quite at the livestock/pawn level. While there are ingrained biases against colonists, Starfighter isn’t that type of dystopia. (And though exploitation is a major theme, I wouldn’t classify it as a dystopia).

Especially on Mars which I see as probably the first and largest of the colonies and where I try to build in a certain independent/rebellious streak. Like when it comes to Martian music for example, I’ve been referencing genres linked to protest songs in the anglosphere – folk and punk. (Of course, protest songs exist in numerous genres/languages/cultures, I’ve just been using those two because of my own enjoyment of them.)

But I can certainly imagine a variety of ways there would be push back against colonial oppression on Mars beyond simply the political – movements equivalent to pirate radio, zines, maker communities, off-the-grid homesteading and more would all be present in my version of Mars. A separate, self-supporting Martian culture having taken root both because of and in spite of Earth’s oppression)

(Very quick heads up regarding my activity levels for the next few weeks -

I'm in the middle of my do-or-die crunch time for my annual donations to Desert Bus for Hope. So I am basically doing nothing but crafting for hours on end with little time to focus on writing currently. I will still be around to check my dashboard and see what is going on but expect my replies to move at a glacial pace for the near future. PS – I highly recommend learning about Desert Bus for Hope as it is an amazing charity event that I  very willing dedicate my time and energy to. I have a little treat to share with everyone today - A taste of what it would be like if Starfighter Eclipse had voice acting!

I support the wonderful voice actor SungWon Cho AKA prozdvoices via his Patreon Page. Every month, I get to request a short clip and this time I asked him to voice Helios’ first few lines from Selene’s ending. He did such a great job capturing Helios’ sweet mix of awe and affection along with a little hint of anxiousness!
